Let's be honest: 1. As DC stated, the BOG has been ineffective. As one legislator, stated "It appears Dr. Glover, is running the BOG, instead of the BOG Governing TSU 2. Lets go back, TSU was not on the radar on the Legislators. Until, parents and students contacted the Legislators and news media about problems with Scholarship Funds not being available, as TSU promised, the over crowding of the dorms - students living in Hotels "not in the most desirable part of Nashville" rooms, with as one student stated, "roaches, flies and rodents" 3. TSU over the years, dating back at least 8-10 years. Has displayed the inability to maintain accurate records. Thou, the Legislators allocated additional funds to hire additional staff. 4. TSU Administration and BOG, failed over the course of a year to correct the problems. 5. Most of us, watched the hearing with the Legislators. Someone, described them embarrassing as Dr. Glover and others addressed the Legislators. 6. What happened, to the scholarship funds Dr. Glover, said TSU had available? Students and the university are still asking alumni for funds to assist students. As one parent stated, her child was promised a full - ride, arrived on campus - no funds or paperwork. Thou, she and her child had documentation. No one can place the blame on the Legislators. My question is - what road has the BOG and Dr. Glover, has been traveling to allow TSU to placed in the position that it's currently in. Several of us, foreseen this coming several years ago, years before, there was any mention about the money owed. Which has very little, if anything to do with the status of the university.

On March 28, Republican lawmakers vacated the entire Tennessee State University Board despite an agreement to leave three board members to serve. This move reportedly was both a surprise and disappointment to the TSU community. An audit over several years showed “deficient processes” but “no fraud or malfeasance.” The Tennessean reminded us that the State of Tennessee, over the last 30 years, underfunded TSU, an HBCU school and a land-grant institution, by $2.1 Billion. During that same 30 years, our state managed to fully fund my alma mater, University of Tennessee-Knoxville, also a land-grant institution. One might ask is this disparity “malfeasance”?As a University of Tennessee Knoxville grad, I'm astounded by the state's treatment of TSU

Report: Tennessee's Lee and group spent $117K in Paris, Italy for TNECD trip
I am just going to say this.
A majority of these funds are built into the departments budget. How, do I know. When I worked for TN DOT, the department had funds built in to our budget, for travel to and from conferences, through out the state, to Washington DC, Atlanta and several other cost that affiliated with trave. If my memory is correct, years ago. There was concern with an earthquake, along The New Madrid Seismic Zone, which includes the City of Memphis, Dyersburg, Covington and the outlying area of various counties in West TN, and several bridges on the Mississippi River. There were a few engineers, sent to other countries to study their construction methods. I am thinking Japan was one country.
This was important, because the Memphis - Arkansas Bridge I-40 West, Hernando de Soto Bridge; I-55-412 North, Tennessee -Missouri, Harahan Bridge - Union Pacific Bridge, Frisco Bridge carry cargo from Memphis to Arkansas.
I am saying this, only to emphasize. Whenever, the State, spend money for representatives to bring business to TN and the surrounding states. To better the economics of the state. There should not be an issue. The state - Department of Economic Development also has partnerships with Germany; Japan and other foreign countries as it relates to the Automobile Industry [BMW; NISSAN, Smyrna; VW, Chattanooga. Honda, Greenburg, TN]

I am not surprised. A majority of the TN Colleges and Universities has been experiencing the same issue. Because of how the prices of apartments has increased during the past two to three years. MTSU, UTK and some of the other schools were able to reach out to residents in their communities and they were able to secure some housing for their students and some stayed in hotels. www.wbir.com/article/news/local/university-of-tennessee-uses-local-holiday-inn-hotel-to-address-need-for-more-student-housing/51-b5fa1459-db3f-4c24-a75d-3277a055d8f7www.wate.com/news/local-news/ut-leasing-hotel-to-help-alleviate-need-for-student-housing/The difference, if my memory is correct. TSU reached out to several hotels. And was only to secure housing at the hotels on Brick Church Pike. But, TSU had received authorization from TN School Bond Authority voted, approved TSU housing leases with hotels, residences halls. To include: Six places in total for the fall and three for the spring. Those hotels and residence halls include: The Best Western on Brick Church Pike, Red Roof Inn, Ramada Inn – Opryland, Candlewood Suites North, LaQuinta Inn at Briley and House of God. I do recall one of the hotels stating something like "they don't do something for an extended period of time" If TSU was able to stay at other hotels. They should have made it known to the public. Perhaps, the issue with hotels on Brick Church Pike, wouldn't have been such an issue. fox17.com/news/local/tn-school-bond-authority-voted-approved-tsu-housing-leases-with-hotels-residences-halls

Please limit postings to the subject matter of the thread. I understand that housing was one of the issues that precipitated the issues between the State and TSU, but ultimately, the vote to vacate the BOT is a subject matter on its own. And, the discussion about UTC's housing crisis is technically unrelated to TSU.
Folks I keep pointing out the need to keep subjects separated because when you inject too many narratives into a thread it loses focus of actual subject matter content.
