(WKRN) – SB 2109 essentially removes Tennessee State University’s Board of Trustees and gives governance to the Tennessee Higher Education Commission. State Sen. Jon Lundberg (R-Bristol) is sponsoring the bill and believes this is the best course of action for the state to move the university forward. “The current board haven’t raised their hands, spoken up, or they taken their fiduciary responsibility to the point that they need to,” Lundberg said. “Unfortunately, it is time for us to step in and force some change.” www.wkrn.com/news/local-news/nashville/tsu-responds-to-senate-bill-aiming-to-remove-board-of-trustees/

Man, I hope those who still live in Tennessee, vote these racist republicans out of office. I’m so sick of their continuous overreach into TSU’s business. Fund and support the school, fairly, like every other university in Tennessee, and non of these “so-called problems” wouldn’t exist.

Agree to disagree: The BOG, has had ample time to correct the issues that has been hampering TSU for years. Remember, if my memory is correct - the Legislators, was going to remove the BOG on the spot, then extended the deadline to January or February 2024, to make improvements, right the ship and they have not! A majority of the BOG, live in Nashville - Davidson County and should have been meeting 'via conference call or in person" with Glover and others to make sure they meet the deadline . If they were, should have kept the Legislators up dated, if not shame them! Also, Students, are still complains about their balances, thou they had a "full ride". Can't blame the Legislators. Remember the video's, where the legislators, went back several years - as it relates to TSU audits, identifying the same problem over and over again. The BOG, just need to consist of "Business Mined People" Can't blame "Poor Management - Oversight" on the Legislators. Something, just don't add up with the BOG. If I didn't know better, it's like they [some] are [ never mind.

I’m not saying they don’t have their faults, but you can’t demand to remove the BOG if you haven’t provided them the necessary resources to do their jobs. Those legislators need to be removed if that’s the case. They know TSU has been underfunded for years, but refuse to do anything about it.

That's where I am Madness. Before the state tries to take over, at least give them time work a few years with proper support. Now I am concerned about this failure to pay financial aid. Is that a BOT call?

Remember, it was only a few months ago - most of us was ready to boot the BOG on the spot.
As I mentioned, the Legislators gave the BOT three or four months to rectify the problem.Debra Cole, assured the issues would be addressed and solved, by the deadline - they have not been solved - may be some have been. If they have, why does TSU continue to make the same statement about housing and other issues.
Is the BOT the overseer or not? As one of the Legislators stated, it appears the BOT answers to Glover, instead of her answering to them. How many students were sent home because their Aid was screwed up. I recall about two years ago. Students were complaining about their aid. TSU {Glover} said they didn't have the staff to do some things and was in the process of hiring additional people. At one time TSU was going to hire an accounting firm to assist with the issues and purchase some software - her were are two to three years later and the same issues exist. Obie McKenzie, was to busy talking about his "rags to riches" story - rather than discuss the business of the university
For clarification: Keep the BOT, but get rid of those current clowns on the BOT. Sometimes, you just have to clean house and start over.
Now, I am wondering what Rep. Love is thinking after he went to bat for TSU. Hopefully, the Legislators will allow TSU to operate under it's own BOT, one the current members and Glover are gone!
[/b]Yeah, TSU keep asking Alumni honestly, if most alumni we give year after year after. It's time for the students and their families to step-up to the plate. It's if alumni don't have responsibilities.

I think this whole thing is going to get ugly. A lot worse than some idiot politician asking President Glover, "why are all east Tennessee black kids bypassing other schools to go to TSU."

IMO, this is primarily about Dr. Glover and TSU asking for the money owed to TSU by the State.
Lee doesn't want to take an L, and let us be clear does not want to pay the remaining amount owed.

Senate Education panel vacates Tennessee State University Board of DirectorsIf the BOT's term was for another year I could see them vacating it. But their term ends in June so, there really isn't any reason to vacate it at this point. Also, if the Senate votes to vacate the BOT, Gov. Lee can reappoint some of the members if he so chooses. I'm not in agreement with vacating the board at this time given that their term ends in June. But, I do not want to see this board stay intact. They have been relatively ineffective and they have been to passive when it comes to overseeing the leadership of TSU. I also don't think they are prepared, well off capable of addressing many of the issues facing TSU or handling major decisions. For the most part they never even recognized the problems that exist. They had to be told what the problems are. That's not good.
