fox17.com/newsletter-daily/housing-crisis-at-tennessee-state-universityNASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — It’s what some students are calling a “housing crisis” at Tennessee State University. Tonight FOX 17 News continues its coverage of an ongoing issue that is carrying into the spring semester. Classes start in just six days and some students say many of them still don’t have housing, leaving them frustrated and anxious for what’s to come. ”Honestly this is sad. It’s saddening,” Michael Madison said as him and his two classmates who choose to remain anonymous are now demanding answers from TSU. “I think what I want most out of this is some accountability to be taken. I want someone to take accountability for what’s being done,” said one student. These upperclassmen told FOX 17 News they were forced to stay at a local Best Western last semester due to an overflow issue with housing at the school. ”Which they told us that would only be for the fall semester and for the spring semester they said we were going to be back on campus,” said another student. But this student said this is not the case. She was told freshmen would get priority housing, but added that there’s still a lot up in the air for overflow students as the start of class is quickly approaching. “There’s not going to be space to put 300 plus students after you're housing the priority students, the new incoming students. So they need to put us in a hotel.” She said that every attempt to reach out to the school, leads to a roadblock, with staff members giving a new answer each week. “Everyone is calling every day as to where we will be. We are hearing different things,” one student said. This is why she asked for more communication from the school, as some are living in different states. These students are unsure about where their future lies in the next few days. “I wouldn’t have anywhere to stay to attend in-person classes. So I’d probably have to stop my courses or figure something else out,” Madison said. FOX 17 News also reached out to TSU and we have a scheduled interview with the Dean of Students for this week. This is a developing story and we will have updates as they become available.

They have to stop making promises. They are going to have to partner with a few housing companies to assist with this. Put apartments on our campus that can have students(grad and undergrad) and outsiders to support the capacity. I am not talking about a BCU deal. We can be smarter than that.
The state process is really long, but some of that is on us for requesting these upgrades so late in the game.

Recall everyone had housing last semester, some were on campus and others staying at the hotel on Brick Church Pike.
I agree with the person in Housing, there are some student that had off campus Apartments, now they realize they can't afford the Apartments, because rent continue to increase.
Now they are looking for on-campus housing. They have to wait in ling to receive housing as does other students.
They need to stay of the TV and work within the university guidelines. The news media is not always the answer

Honestly y’all. If there was a housing crisis in the fall, there would be a housing crisis in the spring semester. Most kids stay for the whole year, and others just enroll for the first time in the spring.
No worries, as Sillywillie used to say, help is on the way!

I am really tired of "some" of the students.
They feel that going to the news media will always solve an issue. Honestly, I don't believe the student, for the simple fact. A large portion of the students cry about registration, but will not take a moment to go on line and register.

Can't complain if you're requesting housing at the last minute.

What students called a 'Housing crisis' at TSU is resolved NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — (Update: Jan. 24 at 8 p.m.) All Tennessee State University (TSU) students now have housing following delay issues with the school. This is the second semester in a row where TSU students were stressed about their living situation, an issue that the Dean of Students now said has been resolved and should no longer be an issue in the future. Hundreds of students are now housed within walking distance to the classroom. Most of those overflow students are staying at the House of God Apartments near TSU, with the school also adding a second living facility this past week at a local hotel. fox17.com/news/local/what-students-called-a-housing-crisis-at-tsu-is-being-resolvedMy Comment: With the exception of students that graduated or transferred. Those students that lived on campus and returned, had housing. Those that didn't lived off campus and that was their option. I say again, now they are running to the TSU Housing looking for a room. Those same students think it's cheaper to live off campus than to live on camps, by the time they calculate the monthly rent, food, transportation, utilities, bed and living room items and other cost fees. They finally realized that they are not math majors. Those students, need to realize the incoming students are the university first priority. One comment, a student complained about staying in a Best Western Hotel - I am thinking it's the one located on Trinity Lane. How can an individual compare BW with the possibility of receiving a room at the House of god Apartments House of God Apartments, on W.Heiman Street. Another student mentioned about "how much he / she is paying" Give me a break. The apartment I use to live in is $880.00 - 1,450.00 a month, depending on the number of BR and Bath RM and Sq. ft. The news reporter verified what I previously said "the cost of renting an apartment is has increased.
True, I am hard on the student's, because they fail to realize that they are not living at home, some don't work, have nice cars, eat out, want to be and live like adults, waiting to the last moment to register - at the same time complaining, complaining and complaining.
At the same time, they will work during break and while in school to save money to pledge a Sorority of Fraternity.
They will learn after graduation, things just don't go your way

Your quips about the younger generation have nothing to do with how tsu administration has mismanaged housing over the past few years. We have had no real growth at TSU since she has been in offense. Not clear on why you think this administration has gotten right all of a sudden.

I have two young men in college and yes they need a reality check and are getting it... Sometimes we spoiled them unintentionally...

it's one the parents actually spoiling children and the other helping them along the way. The later is good, helping and teaching at the same time.
But, allowing some to become a "Man-Child" meaning wanting to act like adults. Like the old slang saying "not to have a pot to piss in” as “to be penniless, to have no money or resources.Meaning you have nothing of value, all you have belongs to someone else.
I once heard someone say "Walking around rich with holes in your pockets"
The truth is, unless a student come from a family that is really, deprived economically and I am 100% sure TSU as well as every school of learning have those students.
However, there are students that have the best and will complain, but not those that have less. It's call appreciation vs I expect you to do this for me. It's call the "Just Because Attitude"
