One of the things that TSU needs to understand, is that they hamstring themselves by having those first 2 weeks of the season locked in, with the JMC on Labor Day and the Jackson St game right after that. By the 3rd game of the season, a lot of these FBS schools, and even a lot of FCS schools, are starting to play conference games. TSU must get off of that Labor Day JMC classic, and move it to the 3rd week in September. Also, I would start that relationship with NCAT. They're the one school that may be willing to play some sort of classic game. I would toggle A&T and Alabama A&M if they were interested. Sign home and home series with those two if this is the approach we look to take. I say that because how many more neutral site games will we want to add. We have the SHC now, but rumors of the FAMU game returning to Atlanta. Depending on what the OVC does, we'll have more flexibility if the number stays where it's at now.

We get nothing out of playing Alabama A&M. I love the game but honestly it does 0 for us. It’s not a big recruiting city for us. Not a lot of alumni there. No reason to have a home and home with them. As far as classics we have enough neutral site games. With playing Jackson State. Other than finding a way to get into Atlanta or Florida I wouldn’t sign up for any other netural site games. Sorry to say John Merritt classic should be against a lower level team like Kentucky state, Lane etc. we should keep 1 game every year against power 5 and then fill schedule accordingly. Jackson state is our rival. Everyone else is no longer a rival.
Playing NC&T would only benefit us if it’s neutral site and sort of like a kickoff. I think first game should always be home if we are going to keep southern heritage on second week. 0-2 and your first home game will not draw.
Actually I’m not for anymore third party promoters. Imagine if we e played this TSU vs Jackson State game at home. That’s all of our money. You wouldn’t need to draw 70k 40k would give us a lot more money since we would keep concessions, parking etc.

I disagree playing AAMU does nothing for us. I think we just value rivalries or potential rivalries different. With that said, I want to see what your schedule would look like...
Currently, we have 6 OVC opponents, which leaves 5 OOC games. Reading between the lines, your schedule would resemble this?
Conference: AP Murray TTU UTM EIU SEMO
Non-Conference: JSU NC A&T - neutral site neutral site game in Atlanta or Florida FBS Kentucky State (JMC)
***Correct me if I'm wrong
Not a bad schedule. I like the FBS game and Kentucky State every year in the JMC, considering Big John played there and KSU is an older rival of ours. I definitely would lock AAMU in as last game of the year rival and find a neutral site game with either FAMU -or- NC A&T. If not them, then one of the bigger HBCU fanbases (SU, Grambling, Alabama State, possibly SCSU).

TSU Folk love going to AAMU, we always get a kick out of taking over the place!!..lol Honestly, I enjoy going down there and tailgating with them. Always have fun in both cities. Plus they're a natural rival, only an hour and a half away. Also, if they keep trending up, then you have a ranked team to play.

Charlotte, N.C.dukesmayoclassic 2022 – The Charlotte Sports Foundation (CSF) today announced that North Carolina A&T State University will play North Carolina Central University in the Duke’s Mayo Classic to open the 2022 and 2027 seasons. Exact dates and times along with events information will be released in the future.
100 Black Men of Greater Charlotte and the Leon Frank Agency will be partnering with CSF for the matchup, working on events and business development.
“We are very proud to bring the storied rivalry of NC A&T and NC Central to Charlotte in 2022 and 2027 for the Duke’s Mayo Classic,” said Danny Morrison, Executive Director of the Charlotte Sports Foundation. “Hosting such a longstanding rivalry between two HBCU schools is an honor and privilege for CSF, our partners, and the city of Charlotte. We look forward to working with 100 Black Men of Charlotte and the Leon Frank Agency to impact the community through new initiatives and events around the games. We are excited to welcome Aggies and Eagles fans to the Queen City for great fun and football to kick off the 2022 and 2027 seasons.”
“We are looking forward to taking one of college football’s great rivalries and moving it to the Queen City of Charlotte,” said NC A&T Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Earl Hilton III. “We want to thank the Charlotte Sports Foundation, North Carolina Central University and Duke Mayonnaise for putting together the game. The city of Charlotte has thousands of residents who are either Aggies or Eagles, so the excitement surrounding the game will be intense.”onnidan.com/newsroom/7368-nc-a-t-and-nc-central-will-kick-off-2022-football-season-in-charlotte.html IF I were A&T, I would be trying to make NCCU an annual game with the Aggies. DON'T THROW ALL of your traditions away. Give your fans, alums something that they can look forward to every year in your schedule. If they build it, it could be as big as some of the SWAC classics...something the MEAC is definitely missing esp with the Snakes and the Wildcats gone from the conference.

I've never understood why so many of the natural rivalries amongst several MEAC schools just fizzled. Or never took off. We talk about not having any rivalries in the OVC and to some degree it's not a shocker. But it is shocking to me that Howard and Morgan don't have a rivalry. That Hampton and NSU didn't have much of a rivalry. That the NCA&T and NCCU rivalry wasn't as big as it should have been. That the Hampton and Howard match-up died long before Hampton left the MEAC. That SCSU and NCA&T didn't have a bigger rivalry. DSU is the only football school in the MEAC that I could see not having a big rival game. Although, you would think they and Morgan would have tried to build a stronger rivalry.

DC, this may just be my bias, but it seems like rivalries in the SWAC are way more...INTENSE than rivalries are/were in the MEAC. Maybe its a regional thing as we know football is KING in the deep south? Outside of BCU and FAMU, the other 'rivalries' in the MEAC are more like, friendly rivalries, RIVALRY LITE Its just 'different' in the MEAC with very little exception. TSU's situation is different as we no longer play our old rivals on a regular basis and its been so long, younger alums could really care less about those. But I think the MEAC rivalries have just always been more friendly than more like a real rivalry.

Somebody pointed out to me that AAMU only has 10 games [not 11] scheduled for 2021.
I thought that was kind of odd....wonder if they plan to add an 11th game before the season kicks off?

I think I've read somewhere that they were looking for a Team to play on Sept 11th...With TSU playing APSU twice, it would have been wonderful if we could have worked out a game with them, I would have been satisfied playing at their place!!

Our 2022 schedule is wide open. If they look good on the field for 2021, hopefully the AD's will get together and work something out.
