Magic city and Turkey day Classics are among my favorite childhood memories. But I have not been in over 20 years. If TSU would treasure its traditions and not let them fall away, we could have a similar Classic with AA&M, Bama St, Famu, Grambling or Southern. All we have now is the Southern Heritage with JSU. Something with FAMU could have worked out if we did not put all our cards in Atlanta. TIME TO GET OUT OF THE OVC!!!

As much as would prefer for our relationship with FAMU to be a home and home series, Atlanta is a good alternative to that. I think FAMU and TSU could have worked out a classic game of there own in Atlanta with all the revenue going to both schools. They really didn't need 100 Black Men. If our AD's would open the minds to that idea, it just might be a way to rebuild the rivalry. Actually, Labor Day Weekend could be a good time to do that game annually.

Hone and home or in Atlanta. A match-up with FAMU is always going to bring a crowd. Probably could have made more money in Atlanta with someone else promoting the event. Long as they don't treat it like the CCC.

Birmingham almost done with a new downtown stadium. That is about the half way point between TSU and FAMU. Not everything needs to be in Atlanta. If I am not mistaken Morehouse and Tuskegee moving there Classic to Birmingham. There is room for another Classic with the Black population in Birmingham.

If I'm not mistaken I think Birmingham was once considered as a location for a TSU/FAMU game. I think the game ended up being played in Florida. You're right in that not everything has to be in Atlanta. But classics do better when the city itself is a draw when two schools that are not located nearby are going to play there. The CCC was probably the only exception to that, but it was built around the Black Expo event and other activities that the classic become know for. It also focused on HBCU programs that had a good following. TSU in particular was a good draw in that area because of the number of TSU students and alumni that lived in the mid-west. I'm not saying Birmingham is a bad location. It's not. But it would not be the draw that Atlanta is which has a much larger African American population to draw from. Not to mention Atlanta, has far more alum from both schools living in and around the area. A new stadium in Birmingham is not going to be a bigger draw of playing in Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta if TSU and FAMU could pull off using that facility. As an option TSU and FAAMU could even play at Georgia Tech. That's where the Atlanta Classic started.

No everything doesn't have to be in Atlanta, but let's be clear...if it came down to Atlanta or Birmingham for TSU/FAMU, the winner is Atlanta. Only way you move to Birmingham is if you cannot have the game in ATL. Now Birmingham would be a better option than home and home...or most other cities for the two schools. Just not ATL in my opinion.

Bham's new stadium's capacity is going to be about 20-25K LESS than the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Getting the Rattlers BACK on TSU's schedule is another thing. Again, when we let traditions go, sometimes its hard to get them back. Rivarly with AAMU, maaannn, I think that ship has sailed. The time for that to be put in place was 30-40 years ago. Not saying it isn't possible but....well, lets just see IF it happns. I would love it and support it if it did happen. TSU-FAMU in Bham? WHY? ATL is a much better and TRADITIONAL neutral site THAT OBVIOUSLY WORKS. I believe the alumni of both schools can pull it off.
The Tuskegee-Morehouse Classic [the oldest hbcu neutral site classic] is moving from Columbus Ga to Bham. The Mayor of Bham is a Morehouse Man and wanted to bring another annual classic to the Ham. I'm still not clear on if this move is officially a Go or not. It won't draw nearly the crowd that the Magic City Classic gets [remember: tradition kinda trumps most things] but it may draw more than it does in Columbus Georgia. I'm cool with either location.

I understand Atlanta has it goin on... point blank.. Lived there for 13 years after graduating from TSU.... Just thinking outside the box. Why Birmingham could be a good alternative??? COST, Stadium Size not overwhelming, Not a lot of other activities to compete with, Bham has done well with other classics outside the Magic City TSU has played Bama State in BHam TSU has also played Jackson St in Bham Larger attendance than JMC... Just a thought

honestly, I hope we have enough sense to leave the SHC v. Jackson State as it is.It works. I do remember the game in Bham vs Jackson State. I'd choose Memphis over Bham ANY day. The SHC is well-established. DON'T try to make JSU a home-n-home, we have other slots available on the schedule for a home-n-home. the Southern Heritage Classic is that one annual, somewhat local [as far as distance from Nashville and Jackson] traditional event, hbcu experience that we can look forward to. Interesting that it actually included Grambling and MVSU as the opponent in the earlier years. JSU-TSU just seems to work, has been working, LET IT CONTINUE TO WORK
Home-n-home series are great too. Lets TRY to do this with AAMU considering the proximity of the 2 schools.
The John Merritt Classic? Make it do what it do.
Magic City Classic: I do look forward to rolling over to Bham every year for this. My cousin is an Ala State alum but this is a true BAMAFIED BLACK THANG and I love it.
tsudenver, I can certainly appreciate thinking OUTSIDE of the box. Thats one way to get things done!

I agree with keeping JSU in Memphis.. It's not broken so no need to fix it. As for FAMU, and the JMC; they need fixing.

Sucks for Alcorn that forfeiting or withdrawing from the Spring schedule caused them lose two/three home games in the Fall.

Sucks for Alcorn that forfeiting or withdrawing from the Spring schedule caused them lose two/three home games in the Fall. Yeah, one saving grace is that 3 of those away games are close by: Jackson State, MVSU and South Alabama....I guess you can say SU too.

Yeah, I don't think SU is that far either. That's money lost unfortunately. Spring season wasn't going to bring big attendance, but I think the fall will. With the vaccines in play and people missing football. If we're talking SWAC, the opposing bands will be able to travel again. That money lost won't be recouped. I feel for them a little.
