I think EG comments opens up so many lines of discussion. Should you support team and attend the game, yes. However, the tailgate, just like the pep rally, parade and campus events is a part of the homecoming experience. Yes a study is needed but then we need frank conversation. How do you engage students and alumni in game attendance? What does winning look like? Is the OVC stable and viable? So many discussions and decisions need to be had.

There were a ton of fans who never made it into the game or parking lot. The traffic was horrible with no Police support nor anyone directing traffic. My family and I never made it into the game, at 5:45 I was stuck near Shoney's restaurant (Stadium INN) with a ton of "Road Raging Fans!! Oh yes, it was 3:30 when I hit the James Robertson Road Ramp!!! Horrible Fan Support!!

The athletic department gave out almost 10K free tickets to metro schools for kids day last season against SEMO and still only had 1,600 in attendance. Free tickets are not the answer. Agreed. I want to be very clear, there is no one answer to the issue. But there are things we can do to chip away at the issue. Yes, we gave those tickets to metro schools. However, I think we can be more intentional. Just giving free tickets to high schoolers who likely don't attend their games is not going to move the needle. Giving tickets to other age ranges (middle and elementary schools) may not even make it to the necessary party, the parents. I think they had the right idea. If someone can get up and come to our homecoming parade, I think they're more likely to come to a TSU game. Especially, if the game is closer to the time of the parade. If a high school band in the area get's free tickets; they're more likely to come to the game than an average high schooler because of our band. If notified in advance, the school systems can usually provide buses & drivers. At least that's how APS (Atlanta Public Schools) is down here. Lastly, if kids are playing little league football, either them or their parents will likely have an interest in attending a higher level football game (especially college or pros). I agree with you free tickets aren't the full answer, but it's a ploy amongst many to address the issue. I think purposeful placement of free tickets can help, but I understand it may flop as well. There were a ton of fans who never made it into the game or parking lot. The traffic was horrible with no Police support nor anyone directing traffic. When I was in line getting my tickets, I'll never wait again, a family in front me decided not to go in the game. They had 2 children under the age of 10 and refused to pay $40 a piece for the little ones tickets. I felt their pain, even though I bit the bullet. Considering that stadium isn't no where near capacity, a child rate should be doable.

Oh yes, it was 3:30 when I hit the James Robertson Road Ramp!!! Horrible Fan Support!! Not surprised, I had two season tickets. I did not attend the Homecoming game [ESPN+] for that very reason - Traffic, No Direction and Parking was crazy at the last Homecoming Game. Parking for this season, instead of a parking pass for the dash. I was given a sheet of paper for each game. For the first time since 1984, I didn't attend a Homecoming Game. $40.00 per ticket. not surprised, I was told that because they occupy a full seat. There are times a lot of Common sense has to be used. TSU use to have Adult and Age Limited Tickets. Why not, just Tailgate and watch the game on TV in the parking lot.. It's up to TSU to hire Metro Police for Security. I can't remember seeing any Police Security along the parade route. True, Free tickets for Football or Basketball is not the answer! Volleyball Games [2-15] maybe between 150 - 200. There is no reason for the students not to attend the games to support the team.

I've been quiet the past two weeks because I've liked what I've been seeing so far.
I think that it's a LOT of parallels to last season. It was almost a first half shutout just like against EIU and TTU last year.
TSU let Norfolk back in it just like they did to EIU last year. This is the same team that's playing a little better than their best form of last year's team.
Are we a playoff team? Maybe...
Beat Charleston Southern and EIU and justly earn that spot. SEMO and UT-Martin will lose one eventually, so that should open up the opportunity.

$40.00 for a child's ticket is a problem! The people who refused to pay that amount and the casual fans who relunctantly paid $40.00 probably will not come back to a TSU game. In my opinion, $20.00 for a child's ticket is reasonable and will get fans in the seats. It makes more sense to have 35,000 cheering fans who pay 1/2 price as opposed to 18,000 who pay full price because they will be exposed to the TSU gameday experience and we will create lifelong fans. Most of our most loyal fans have been fans since childhood because of that early exposure to the 'TSU magic' that you only experience by being at the game.

I agree that trying to charge $40 for a child is not middle school aged, is a problem. But only Homecoming has traditionally had elevated prices. At TSU, they almost have to do it, seeing that Homecoming tends to outdraw the rest of the home games combined.
Saturday's game will probably be $15 - $20.
Eddie already knows that 80% of the people that showed up for Homecoming, will not show up on Saturday vs a D-II team that no one has ever heard of.
That's why he sounded the alarm after the Homecoming game. He didn't like one bit that people were leaving the stadium in droves after the halftime performance. That's not the environment he came from.
At some point, TSU and its alumni/supporters/fan base must make a decision.
Do you support the athletic program when they're halfway decent, or do you not care at all?
To me, that's a yes or no question, with little room for excuses one way or the other.

TSU's football fans are simply pathetic. No need to dress it up or try to excuse it. I don't even like calling them fans anymore. Because they are not. Far too many are just party goers. People will support what they want to support. If that was a Beyonce concert, no one would have left because of a little drizzle. And, that's all it was. Yes it was chilly. But the weather took that turn much earlier in the day. I left the parade to go shop for an something that would keep me warm underneath my sweatshirt because it turned chilly and very windy. The forecast was off to say the least, but it was chilly before people started arriving at the stadium whether for the game or tailgating.
This is just a lack of support for the team. The game is no longer about game for far too many of our fans. It's only about tailgating which gives them an excuse to party, drink and eat under the guise of a game. Some will not like this, but I think all tailgaters should be required to purchase a game ticket in addition to the tailgating space. All parking passes for the game should require a purchase of a game ticket. No group should be allowed to set-up tailgating tents and charge people. TSU games should not be money makers for other groups. They should only be allowed to do that if they agree to include the purchase of a game ticket with each tailgating ticket they sell.
Because I usually park in lot A, I rarely see the tailgating that takes place on the south side parking lots at Nissan. Well, because of traffic for this game, I detoured off the interstate to enter in from the south side which put me directly into tailgate hell. The tailgating in lots on the east side of the stadium is bad enough. But, it doesn't even remotely compare to the madness on the south side. Police were having to direct traffic primarily because of pedestrians more so than vehicles. It took me 20+ minutes to go from the street that goes underneath the KVB Bridge over to lot A. Not because of traffic but because of pedestrians. Then the parking attendants on the east side of the stadium clearly weren't trying t keep people from walking casually where ever in the hell they wanted without any regard to cars trying to navigate the lots. Also, the parking lot attendants were even checking to see if you were parking where your pass indicated. Upon entering the east side parking area, I could have parked anywhere I wanted. This is the reason a printed parking pass works best. Not having it pretty much creates a first come first serve environment. I was lucky I got to Lot A when I did because there were just a handful of spaces left because people were tailgating in non-tailgating spaces and were taking up 2-3 spaces.

I think is was A&T, faced the same issues years ago.
Their policy changed, no game ticket - no tailgating!. I can see TSU folks saying "how you gonna charge us for a game ticket, we are just tailgating, NISSAN belong to the City, not TSU.
Had a conversation with a friend about support for TSU. My point was I am a graduate of TSU, not EG or Collins University. So I support TSU.

This is what is done at Tuskegee University
and it has been working for decades for them.
NO FREE PARTIES FOR THE FREELOADERS.
Wanna Tailgate, you WILL BUY a game ticket.
The entire area is sealed off to the freeloaders.
It BOOSTS attendance and it also BOOSTS $$$$$
Nuff said!
