Again, I like Penny...but he's not ready yet. He could flourish down the line, but not right now. Where is John Cooper these days? Last I checked, he was an assistant at SMU or Oklahoma State. UNLV: 12-5, the Running Reb, saw him on was on ESPN+ TSU Record: 43-52 - OVC 27-25

UNLV: 12-5, the Running Reb, saw him on was on ESPN+ TSU Record: 43-52 - OVC 27-25 Yep, he had to rebuild from scratch though. His record is not indicative of where he left the program. Cooper was the first coach to get to 20 wins since Frankie in the 90s if memory serves me correct. In 2011-12, we beat a top 10 ranked & undefeated Murray State team. As well as an SEC opponent in South Carolina...BOTH on the road. We lose to Murray in the OVC tourney championship by 2 in the final seconds. The closest we've come to the tourney since the 90s. If Cov stays healthy in 2012-13, I think we have back to back 20 wins seasons, push for a conference championship, and Cov gets drafted. Still split with Belmont that year in the regular season (lost to them in the tourney in the third matchup). Were we perfect under Cooper...no, but I could see what he was building. Ford was better than Penny, but Cooper was the best of the three (in my eyes).

Frankie Allen never got to 20 wins. He got to 19 twice. Cooper and Ford together was the start of something great at TSU. Because of their recruits, TSU had 5 winning seasons in 7 years. Before Cooper’s first and only winning season (his last year at TSU), TSU had gone 16yrs without a winning basketball season.

Wow, I didn't realize Frankie Allen didn't have a 20 win season. Thanks for the correction.

shouldn't still have a seat if you watch this team play

That seat should be smoking at this point. His teams seem to be filled with “high mileage, injured body” transfers that couldn’t play at their previous stops. The coaching staff is chalked full of JUCO mindsets that have no business being at the D-I level. About the only thing that Penny seems to be able to do is pack the students into Gentry and a little bit of fundraising.
Send his ass, and his dad’s too, packing. Blow it up, start over, and bring us another Cooper or Ford to take TSU Basketball back to prominence.

Time to blow it up and start over. Don't wait till end of season. Post the position now.

Right now I'm all for pulling the plug on Collins. Is there a decent intrem coach on the staff until to step in until the end of the season?

Time to start sticking the pins in Collins. Again as I have stated several times, a couple of the coaches are good coaches [Nichols and Ricky].
The problem IMO has been since he arrived on campus, he us stubborn and has all the answers. One of the better coaches, Ben Walker [Creighton, Butler] left TSU for Milwaukee [14-6, 8-2 Conference Play]. - Josh Bone, started as a video recorder coordinator, now an assistance coach, with no coaching experience. Russ Willemsen, director of football personnel at TTU, now an Assistant Coach. This 2022 comment is directly from someone I know - per another coach "Collins is the problem, the players don't respect him - he is the main reason some of the better players are leaving' We know this true, because in one of the podcast, Collins clearly state to the team about other players "I am glad they left" And another former coach, said the same about Collins being stubborn, that's why most of the assistants stand on the side during a timeout - what they say really does not matter.
Collins has appointed former Tiger standout Brandon Lockridge as the director of basketball operations for the 2022-23 season. Remember him playing average player, nothing special;
Collins, is a high school coach at best - anytime a coach, high school or not, fail to correct one of TSU main problem during games, that being as we have witnessed game after game - why does the team, continue to have the 10 - 15 minuet freezes, can't hit a FT, Layup, 2 or 3 pointer, habitual "Chaotic" playing game after game.
TSU has some ballers, just need a decent coach.

I think he'll get to finish the season, although I wouldn't be surprised if the plug got pulled sooner.
For what it's worth, I'm still pulling for them every game. Just don't think Penny is ready.

If a change is made (not saying I advocate for it, but you know, just in case), a few names that could make for good interviews:
Cuonzo Martin Rodney Terry - Interim HC @ Texas Robert Jones - HC, Norfolk State (back to back MEAC champs) Donte Jackson - HC, Grambling Corey Tate - Associate HC, St. Louis TJ Cleveland - Associate HC, St. John's Jerrance Howard - Former AC, Texas/Kansas

A couple of others:
Lavall Jordan - Former HC, Butler (made 1 NCAA tourney during his 5 year tenure) King Rice - HC, Monmouth (they suck this year, but overall he has done a good job; 3-time MAAC Coach of the Year) Danny Manning - Current Louisville Assistant, former HC at Wake Forest John Thompson, III - Former HC, Georgetown (really did a good job at Georgetown for several years; if they'd known that Patrick Ewing would be a disaster, they'd have probably kept Thompson)
