I don't think Ba has played at all. Likely injured leading to the JMC. I thought Brent Rowe would have been a starter. Maybe he has an injury. The true Freshmen were highly touted out of high school, but I did not think they world move pass some of the LBs already on the roster. I love the fact that we have freshmen who the staff believes in enough to play...but wish we weren't in a situation where they are needed to play. That would be nice, but at least we know we signed several ready to play athletes out of high school on defense. I believe you play the one that gives you the best chance to be successful. Once we build a culture of winning, we can start redshirting all freshmen. But even at that time, we may sign a stud that is just that dude.

I think the days of redshirting your freshman class are over for two reasons. One, freshman come in more developed nowadays due to accessibility of camps, trainers and other avenues for development while in high school. The other reason being the transfer portal. With the amount of attrition teams are experiencing in the transfer portal, it's not guaranteed you'll be able to replace with a non-freshman. If teams like UGA, Ohio State, etc. are playing their best freshman, it's not crazy for ours to be in our 2-deep.
It also helps us in recruiting. You can show recruits, "if you're good enough, you will play your freshman year." The 2024 class was easily Coach George and company's best recruiting class. Even before the transfer signees this offseason, Coach Fisher made it clear he expected 2/3 freshman to play. The defensive staff recruited and signed some studs. I would be more worried if our freshman on offense were playing. I believe a freshman has played on defense every year Coach George has been around (with the exception of his first season, where he didn't have a recruiting class).
