I'm starting this thread to concentrate on the game not the classic. So, please discuss your thoughts on playing UAPB in this thread pregame, during the game and post game. Both team are 1-1 to start the season. TSU with a 41-21 win over MVSU and a 52-3 loss to NDSU. UAPB started the season with a 70-0 loss against Arkansas of the SEC and a 73-0 win over Arkansas Baptist College and NAIA program. So, how does one project an outcome for this game? One could argue that TSU had the more difficult schedule of the two to start. Neither team was expected to win their games against UA and NDSU, so one could really say those games wash each other out. MVSU isn't a strong FCS opponent, but they are at least FCS and TSU did win as they expected and showed improvement in play from last season. Tennessee State controlled the game from beginning to end putting up 31 unanswered points in the first half. Adding 10 additional points in the 4th quarter to MVSU 21 points all in the 4th quarter. ABC on the other hand is an NAIA program which typically offers only partial scholarships for football because the max they can award is 24 full scholarships. So, this heavily impacts the quality of players they can recruit. NAIA programs are below NCAA D2 and D3 programs. It's rare that they even play a D1 program even at the FCS level. As such, UAPB should have easily won their game against ABC in a blowout. It's difficult to measure UAPB given the two games that they've played. My gut tells me that UAPB may be more like MVSU in terms of competition on the field. TSU did give NDSU some issues but just couldn't overcome the power of their program nor keep their drives going. UAPB does not have the talent nor the depth of NDSU. So, if TSU can sustain drives, play strong defense and regain the confidence they had against MVSU, they stand a high chance of beating UAPB. I project TSU to win by 20 or more points.

I watched the reply of the NDSU game today and saw some obvious things in the secondary that needs to be fixed. I believe the staff will address these blown converges and I think playing NDSU helped us more than PB playing Arkansas. We have more of a realistic look at where the adjustments need to be made. Also playing Valley gives us a better view of our strengths and weaknesses. I think we will see continued improvements this week now that we have been punched in the month. Plus, the newcomers now know what is expected of them in order to be successful.

Denver, I agree the next two games should set the tone for our true season.

I think PB will be a tough challenge this weekend.
I actually like their coach. I think they will be prepared and ready to play.
Can't get caught looking ahead to TTU or overlooking a team like this.

After getting punched in the throat by NDSU, I don't think anyone on the TSU side is going to be caught looking past UAPB. If anything, I think TSU will have to get that loss out of their heads, pick-up and move forward.
I'm also thinking that TSU has to be thinking about how they escaped UAPB last season. Just a reminder, we were less than a minute away from a UAPB tying FG to send the game into OT. Fortunately, TSU blocked the FG attempt and returned it for a TD to lock up the win.
UAPB might find themselves being a bit overly cocky after their creampuff victory over Arkansas Baptist College. Their coaches have to put that in perspective for the players. They surely will know that TSU is not an ABC.

But if they are confident; I think we'll be in for at least a 3/4 quarter game. If we're feeling sorry for ourselves or cocky, we lose. If we're hungry and ready to get the taste of out of our mouths (pause) from last week, I think we'll win.

tsutigers.com/documents/2024/9/11/SHC_Game_Notes.pdfSo, I see Saidou Ba is still not listed in the OL two deep. I think I heard a commentator saying we have one injury on the OL. I guess we will see as the season progresses. We also have lost a starting LB for the season if I heard EG correctly. We will play lots of young LBs.

Did Ba get injured during the JMC or during the week leading up to it? He was listed as LT1 on the depth chart for the game...I got in the stadium right towards the end of the first quarter and he was not in pads. I believe it is Micah Gay who was injured in the NDSU game; that sucks if he is out for the year. Have we ever seen Brent Rowe? 6'1, 230 junior linebacker...seems like he should have been able to help us; but is being passed up by multiple freshmen.

I don't think Ba has played at all. Likely injured leading to the JMC. I thought Brent Rowe would have been a starter. Maybe he has an injury. The true Freshmen were highly touted out of high school, but I did not think they would move pass some of the LBs already on the roster.

I love the fact that we have freshmen who the staff believes in enough to play...but wish we weren't in a situation where they are needed to play.
