Indeed. For me, there are a few surprises on the defensive 2-deep. *granted injuries could by why D-line wise, I expected Luther Snipes and Kierron Smith to be in the 2-deep. We know there's a lot of competition along that D-line! Two freshmen already on the 2-deep says a lot about both of their futures. Coach Fisher mentioned at the signing day event, he expected both to play their freshman year. He wasn't lying. Keandre Booker at a nickel feels like a typo lol. However, he is athletic. Plus they may be expecting MVSU to run some. LB wise, we have two more freshmen in the 2-deep. Looks like this freshman class is stepping up! DB wise, two more freshmen in the 2-deep...interested to see the other DBs that suit up and play on special teams. No Helton, Cobbs, Wilson, or McDaniels. One thing I can say...we have a lot of depth. I pray that pushes us to finishing the year strong. I think we'll come out the gates strong.

While I'd prefer to not see freshmen in the 2 deep, if they came in and took a spot, then it is what it is. Everyone had the same opportunity unless they missed camp, so congrats to those who moved up.

What's the weather report? It just rained pretty hard in Memphis and is supposed to rain a lot of the day tomorrow too.

Looks like rain in the afternoon. Ending around 5:30. Seems like TSU home games can’t catch a break.

Technically, saving a section for the visiting band is a courtesy anyway. If the host school doesn't reserve a section, you can't come. Rethinking traveling to NDSU and Lindenwood... The band is traveling to St. Louis for the Lindenwood game, but not to Fargo, ND. But don’t let a brotha be alone in Fargo. Help me represent the Big Blue!

I really need to see our offense come out putting up points today. Preferably with a lot of down field passes. Then I'll feel comfortable about next week.

x.com/afewtsufans/status/1810995613112115605?s=46I remember some years ago on this board, that there were several members suggesting that we move the JMC to different dates in order to get bigger money games during the Labor Day weekend. Well, whether it was intentional or not, that is exactly what happened after COVID. And it has almost destroyed a once viable home game classic. This season, the JMC will be played during the Labor Day weekend for the first time since 2019, which ironically was against this year’s opponent, MVSU. The attendance for that game was a little over 13,000. Although not great, that 13,000 is the highest attended JMC since 2019, and that includes the infamous 2022 game in the Hole against Lane College, which was attended by just over 11,000 fans. The other two matchups were against Kentucky State after COVID and Gardner Webb in 2023 (( raising hand )) I was one of those people. But let's be honest about this topic. The decline of the JMC started when the more popular SWAC schools started to turn TSU down to . . (( drumroll )) . . play opening day money games. When TSU had to scramble and schedule Edward Waters for the 2014 JMC game, that was a BIG warning sign that the JMC lost its luster among the SWAC schools TSU desired to play. They get Bama State in 2015 and UAPB in 2016. Since then, here have been TSU's opponents on Labor Day weekend - 2017 - @georgia State
- 2018 - vs Bethune Cookman
- 2019 - vs Valley
- 2020 - no game
- 2021 - vs Grambling ( Hall of Fame game )
- 2022 - @eastern Washington
- 2023 - @notre Dame
- 2024 - Valley
As I've said plenty of times on this forum, the SWAC doesn't care about TSU. They're not going to go out of their way to play the Tigers any more. Notice that now, TSU is only getting the bottom of the barrel of the conference, to play in the game. Or they can only secure MEAC teams. At least next year they have NCAT coming in. Let's see how fired up people are about that game . . . especially if they too refuse to bring their band.
We keep trying to force keeping HBCU history alive, instead of forging ahead and develop our own history. TSU must get out of that mindset.
Until TSU starts acting like THEY are the attraction, we will always be REACTING and scrambling to find opponents for Labor Day weekend.
So I still say . . go out and get that money on the first weekend, and have the game after the SHC be the JMC. And if you have problems finding an opponent of your liking on that 3rd weekend, highly consider getting out of the JMC to have a viable home game.

DBs will have to be better next week or it will not be pretty vs NDSU O line too. We've gotten stopped in multiple short yardage situations.
