So the Big Green Marching Machine AIN'T high-stepping into Nashville??? One of my band director buddies posted on Facebook a couple of weeks ago that this was possible, so I guess he was right. It's not as enticing for a SWAC band to come and play us as it is to us for them to come and play us.

I am not sure why a stopover in Nashville on the way to Charlotte is not possible. The event is not until 4 PM on Sunday

I doubt we paying enough to squeeze that in. If JMC was mid-day or 3ish. I could see trying. But a late evening game and then driving on would be a lot. Even if the band would be mostly sleeping during travel.

Yeah, bands are expensive to carry. I imagine budgets are tight. They get something for the battle of the bands, I'm sure even if it's just exposure. I doubt they're getting anything to come to the JMC.

I doubt they're getting anything to come to the JMC. That's probably what we will see more of moving forward from the AoB. The full band will be at home games, but for OVC and non-HBCU road games, the band will be more likely to perform at a battle of the bands in FL, GA, AL, NC, MS, LA or somewhere like that. Which is fair; why go and entertain the other school's fans for free when they can either get paid or a great recruiting opportunity at a battle of the bands?

I hear ya. What ever happened to traveling to support the football team and the school?

I hear ya. What ever happened to traveling to support the football team and the school? Unfortunately, bands have a budget they have to stick to. When traveling was less expensive, bands could come on more road games. Events like the battle of the bands help pay their bills. Traveling to road games from moral support does not. Because this isn't a home and home series, they're less likely to come to Nashville without a return trip from the AOB. For one way games, I think most bands are looking for compensation.

I hear ya. What ever happened to traveling to support the football team and the school? Technically, saving a section for the visiting band is a courtesy anyway. If the host school doesn't reserve a section, you can't come.

I think if there's a battle of the bands the same day as the football game, you maybe send a travel band (one bus) to the game to play alma mater, fight songs, spirit songs, etc., and the marching band to perform at the battle of the bands.
