I get Will Rogers. I think he went to Miss. State to play for Mike Leach. He doesn't have time for a rebuild, especially with the suitors he likely has. I get him leaving. Same for Duke's QB, Riley Leonard, who just entered as well. Miami lost a couple of starters too.
Hopefully, TSU doesn't lose too many more contributors or players counted will be in two deep. But the reality of the portal is you can expect transfers.

Ok, Defensive Lineman Abraham Alabi. During practice, most of the time he was on the sideline limping. I thought he would be a big contributor to the DL. I have to say this, most of these players in the Portal, really need to be thankful TSU gave them an opportunity to play football. They are "good" players, not dynamic, mostly two and three stars. Most are not as good as they "think" they are. Zaire Thorton - TSU to UTC www.espn.com/college-football/player/stats/_/id/4695044/zaire-thornton

Zaire Thorton - TSU to UTC www.espn.com/college-football/player/stats/_/id/4695044/zaire-thorntonOuch Seriously, Thorton had better numbers at TSU - go down to UTC - The stats don't lie. I guess he was thinking the NFL will come knocking at his door. Off season, If I was the HC, I would make it clear - if you are not hear for the long haul - graduation. Turn in you gear and don't bother to return for Spring practice. There are several upper classman that didn't start, limited playing time, But, they are still on the team taking advantage of what's being offered. TSU120, list of quitters, "No guts, no glory" I am sure there will be more added, before Spring Practice. Bryce Phillips: Junior - CB, Santa Ana, TSU put his name on the Map. No significant recognition from Santa Ana Jashon Watkins: Junior - CB, East High Magnet School, played at Memphis [2 games]. Had an offer from Arkansas, before coming to TSU. Good reddens. Watkins had a lot - I mean a lot of potential - recruited by "Arkansas, Florida, Louisville, Mississippi State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee" but chose Memphis - go figure. Perhaps, could have been the starting "CB" since Bryce is leaving. Maybe he is afraid of the incoming competition. Jahee Blake: Sophomore - WR, Fork Union Military Academy - move on, unless you are special, you will have to beat out: Karate Brenson, Canen Adrian, Brunetti, Majors and a host of young guns - ain't going to happen. Zachery Drake; Junior, DB, Maplewood - can't be the young guns: Hollis, Villiers, Wilson, Tyler Jones, Sharp an Boogie Trotter "he can move on" fumble too much, contributed to one of the "L "take a Knee. I call him Mr. Fumble Dylan King: RS Freshman, DB, Oakland High School - A Freshman, go figure, A lot of potential. Recruited by: TSU, EKU, Gardner Webb, Marshall and TTU. Move on, but will still be playing catchup. Abraham Alabi. RS Junior, DL, Eastern Kentucky: Move on, no significant stats., to speak of for TSU.

Watson!
A nice long statement, "Next Chapter in life" Started at a JC, then to Grambling, end up at TSU, now he off to another program. A true indication of no stability. Then he said "I have to make a difficult decision" oh really! Why was this a heard decision, when he had already made up his mind to move on.
I am really, sick and tired of those "B S" statements.

Not bothered by Adrian leaving. Had a nice spring but never really got going during the season. Wish him luck.
Watson hurts. Pretty sure he would've been a starter next season. Wishing him luck as well.
In general, transfers are happening to a lot of schools (FBS, FCS, D-II). While I wish this skipped over TSU, it's not realistic. It's just the current state of college football. Some of these kids may never play pro football, so their going after the money now. Honestly, can't say I'm mad at it.
I don't think you can make a kid promise you he'll stay all 4 years. All he has to do is lie, and say "yes" for the moment. College coaches do what's best for them, the kids now have the right to do the same.
In the offseason it seemed that our coaching staff was well aware of players coming to TSU and possibly looking to transfer up. Coach Fisher mentioned it in one of his interviews during fall camp. So I don't think the staff is as bothered as we are. They've already adapted. They just use it in recruiting. "We had 3 DL go to FBS programs last year" is a pitch I'm sure was used during this past offseason. Sucks, but you have to adjust to the times. Use the transfer portal to our advantage, just as the players use it to theirs.
College football has been a business for a while; now the rawness of it is out in the open.

The observation that I take from the number of transfers from the program is that most of them are transfers into the program. In other words, 'the transfer portal giveth and the transfer portal taketh away". As a result, coaches and fans have to face the reality that a significant number of transfers will not develop that loyalty to the program and will look to leave after a year. I guess that is the reason that some coaches hesitate in taking players from the portal. At any rate, the portal is still new and coaches and fans are trying to adjust to the new reality. Also, I think that overall the portal hurts more that it helps because it seems that the athlete has become more athlete that student.
