NASHVILLE – After weeks and months of planning, the approval to move forward with the newest addition to the Trevecca Athletics department is here. As a reminder, Trevecca announced the addition of STUNT just over 16 months ago and we've all enjoyed the success of what coach Kelly Quigley and the team produced in their first season. Two other recent additions, Karen Booker (2022) and Kevin Carroll (2023) returned favorable returns respectively in their first year on the Hill. Both turned their program from a single digit win teams the year before their arrival to not only winning teams, but postseason teams. The athletic department and university are hopeful today's announcement brings the same level of success each of these recent additions brought to the Hill. As you can see, when we presented the idea to Jeff Fisher, a Partner and President of Football Operations for the Nashville Kats, it moved the former Tennessee Titans and Los Angeles Rams head coach to visit the Trevecca campus last week, offering his support and backing to Trevecca Athletic Director Mark Elliott. tnutrojans.com/news/2024/3/31/general-trevecca-athletics-new-addition-to-the-hill-announced-today.aspx

I would have preferred seeing this announcement come from Fisk. I wonder how long will they remain content staying at DII Fisk plays at the NAIA level, not D2. The only difference for Trevecca is that they are adding football and moving to the Gulf South Conference. They are leaving the Great Midwest Athletic Conference which is D2 and doesn't offer football. For Fisk (currently NAIA) to offer football at the D2 level it would have to meet the minimum of 36 full football scholarships required by the NCAA. In addition they would have the operational costs for a football program as well (i.e. coaching staff, equipment, facilities, travel, recruiting costs, etc.). A small school like Fisk may find it difficult and not cost beneficial to fund a football program. Of the 303 institutions classified as D2 in 2022, only 164 (54%) of the schools offer football. Where as 257 (72%) of the 357 D1 schools offer football. Fisk would also have to meet minimum requirements for other sports offered if they moved up to the NCAA D2 level. The team requirements at the D2 level is 5 men's teams and 5 women's teams or 4 men's teams and 6 women's teams. Scholarship requirements vary per sport. Basketball typical requires 10 full scholarships for each team. The NAIA is the opposite of the NCAA when it comes to scholarships. Instead of setting minimums for the number of scholarships they actually set a cap on the number of scholarships that can be offered by the institution with Financial Aid guidelines (see page 12) for varying sports. Since the NAIA doesn't have a minimum scholarship requirement for their sports, Fisk could offer football at the NAIA level but they'd also have to change football or join another conference as an affiliate member for football only if permitted. This analysis done by the NAIA might help to better understand why schools choose NAIA over the NCAA D2 - A Closer Look - NAIA and NCAA DII

I remember the last time Morehouse played Fisk in football; it was either 1981 or 1980. I was still in high school.

Actually I making a statement and a question separately, but I see how it could read the way you took it. I was just saying I would rather have seen Fisk getting a football team period. The question was supposed to have been, " I wonder how long will Treveca stay D2"
