I wonder if the new appointees will advocate for the $2.1 billion in funding owed to TSU and how they will deal underfunding as it pertains to budget/management expectations, goals, and needs.
I suspect Gov. Lee will complete his final term and will not address any future funding for TSU which seemed to be the plan all along.

Fair or unfair the board has to have the political savvy to deal with the TN governing body. And, they have to project that they, the board, is in charge. IMO, the old board, on occasion, gave the appearance of being behind and trying to catch up with regards to knowledge of events.

At least two of the new board members are advocates of working with the State to address the $2.1B owed to TSU. Also, two of the members served on the board for the TSU Foundation and they wanted to do more in raising funds and wanted to initiate restrictive access to Foundation funds from the president.
My hope is that unlike the previous board, the new board will be proactive, assertive and strategic in all of its efforts. The have some daunting challenges ahead of them. They are going to need a lot of energy and a lot of support.

I suspect Gov. Lee will complete his final term and will not address any future funding for TSU which seemed to be the plan all along. In watching an interview with Rep. Harold Love, Jr. and watching Roland Martin's Show, broadcasted from TSU today, I would take being the primary advocate, for payment of the $2.1 Billion, off the plate of the Board of Trustees. The 2.1 Billion is an under payment of Federal funds, therefore, I think the quickest way to get the funds, is to do what GA has done, thatis, a group of GA HBCU Alumni have filed suit in Federal Count for payment of the funds. In TN, that would be a group of TSU Alumni and Former Students going to Federal Court to force payment of the funds. Based upon statements made by The Governor and a State Legislator regarding these funds, I don't believe negotiating with them for payment would be effective. If The Governor came to the Board/TSU offering payment, then of course, they should listen, however, failing that, I think Federal Court is the best solution.

Yeah,
Lee is out in 2026 and a Republican controlled TN State Gov't is not going to budge.
Will most likely have to file a lawsuit and also hope you can get a progressive Democrat in office like a Karl Dean to get that funding.

Tiger1 Thanks
It's sad, how some alumni and others has been behaving over the appointment of the BOG. It just goes to show the "lacking wisdom or knowledge" individuals can be. The Latin word is ignorans. There were individuals calling people Satan, how ignorant does that sound.
Most alumni and instigators had, pinned the members as being hand picked by Gov. Lee and pinned them as cronies and set out destroy the university. Those individuals have been convicted and sentence without having an opportunity to be heard.
Always do you homework.

THANK YOU to all who have reached out with well wishes since the announcement of my appointment to the Tennessee State University Board of Trustees. I am honored and humbled to have been selected to lead our beloved Alma mater during this period of transition. It is a responsibility not taken lightly and I am excited to serve alongside these highly capable and accomplished alumni. I am confident that the expected standards of a governing body will be upheld.
The first meeting of the reconstituted Board will be Friday, April 26, 2024 at 2pm. Meeting details will be posted on the board's webpage. All board meetings and committee meetings are open to the public. Please consider attending this meeting in person or virtually. Some of the questions that you've been asking will likely be addressed.
My commitment to you is transparency in action and open communication to foster a culture of trust among our students, alumni, faculty, staff and stakeholders. In turn, I ask that you hold us accountable by being engaged, asking questions, and seeking credible information. This will allow you to be equipped with the knowledge required to be the best advocate for Tennessee State University as we enter into the next chapter of our legacy.
