There are coaches out there who can get the job done. Can't wait until Dr. Allen gets the opportunity to make the call on head coaching positions, because his predecessor made some janky hires. I’ll disagree on Theresa making some bad hires. Cooper was a great hire. Williams was hired because of the players, so I’m told. Ford was a great hire as well. And I can see why she hired Penny. He did well at Cumberland, he’s well supported by the community, and I’m sure Phillips thought she can strike oil again by hiring a young up-and-coming coach, as she did with Ford. Great??? Meh, not so sure about great hires but they were able to stabilize the program to a certain degree and if I can recall both seemed to have some signature wins under their belts. However, are we basing their resumes off W/Ls or Conferences Titles and NCAA Tournament (big dance) invites? If I can recall correctly both had neither of the latter.

BTW, J. Cooper really brought back a winning culture to the Bball program.

True. Didn’t get us an OVC regular season championship or a tournament win, so maybe “great” is a stretch. But for where we were, 15 straight losing seasons, Cooper’s 20-game winning season and a win over #7 ranked Murray State in their building, seemed like greatness personified!

I think Cooper was a great hire. Ford was a good hire. Penny had a lot of people pulling for him to get the job and he actually loves TSU. I understand the hire. Wish he had more success. We'll have to wait and see what happens here.

Why all the indecision about Penny? He's only had six (6) years to prove that he is not a good coach on this level and he should be relieved of his duties, yesterday. "If it were done when 'tis done, Then twere well/ It were done quickly". William Shakespeare. It is unfair to TSU because we might miss out on the opportunity to hire a new coach who can start anew, which also means recruiting players already on the team. It is also unfair to Penny to keep him dangling on a string which might prevent him from finding an opportunity elsewhere. Is the athletic director making decisions that he believes are in the best interests of TSU or is he just a figurehead? Come on Allen, do your job or step aside and let someone else do what needs to be done!

At this point I don't think Allen wants to make anymore coaching changes yet. Not unless he got somebody that can hopefully turn a few more corporate dollars.

Winning can change everything. It’s time we start doing that. Six years is more than enough time to figure it out.

I would like to hear how former players feel about Coach Penny and the job he has done.

Coach Jones from Norfolk State was linked a few days ago to the U of Illinois-Chicago opening; not sure if that will come to fruition or not.
Coach Wright from Langston, as evidenced from the picture LOL is White. Obviously, not to say that should be factored into a decision; just wanted to point it out. However, he does have HBCU experience as I believe he was at Talladega before Langston and elevated that program as well.
Former TSU asst. Jerry Nichols led his team to the juco National Tournament this year. Of course, as a disclaimer, so did Collins while he was a juco head coach...
