BTW, didn't Morehead State lose their best player before the season and still ended up running the table.

Transparency has never been a strong point for TSU LOL so it's no surprise that we aren't hearing anything. 2022-23 was the last year of Collins' original contract, so he has to be given an extension in order to coach this past year...does anyone know what the terms of the extension were? It's similar to Reed where his contract had expired and no one knew anything about his status...next thing you know, it was the next season and he was still there with no announcement or anything. I still believe (I have no inside info) administration is going to grant Collins as much grace as possible, because by default, letting him go puts somewhat of a timeline on Eddie George that administration does not want to limit itself to.

Maybe, IMO, it's harder to re-build a football program than basketball. He was basically, starting from scratch - remember Dr. Glover cut a lot of funding from the program. Which cause program under Reed to suffer.
All Collins, had to do is maintain what Ford, started. However, he has not been able do. Under Collins, Freeman, Abner and Maurice left. I can't think of the players left when Collins arrived on campus. I think, he transferred to Texas A&M. Jr. Clay, was the best player in the OVC, couldn't win with him. Too much talent has played at Gentry, for the program to have not moved to the next level. Not one OVC Championship.
A majority, of the other OVC programs have shown some progress.

It has been a disappointment, especially since the conference is significantly weaker without Belmont, Murray, Jacksonville State, etc.

Maurice is the first player to come in as a freshman and stay four years for Penny. The last two season TSU should have own the OVC the tournament and season

With Jaylen Jones leaving, we need a new coach, now! There’s no way Penny can stay after losing Jones.

It’s safe to say that if nothing happens this coming week, we need to focus on the future with where we are now. OVC commissioner has stated in a recent interview that the OVC will move from an 18 game conference schedule to a 20 game conference schedule. She will limit teams from playing non D1 opponents (a couple of teams including TSU played 4 non D1’s for the past two years). And she will try to partner with several conferences to schedule quality out of conference games. All of this is an attempt to beef up strength of scheduling for the conference. The OVC was one of the weakest basketball conferences this year. x.com/fatherharry1/status/1771248624573288568?s=46It’s no secret that ive had an issue with our strength of schedule for the past couple years. We finished the year as the worst ranked team (288) with 18 wins, according to Kenpom. We have to do better in scheduling. And we must put a better product on the court and perform better in our conference. We are letting golden opportunities pass us by. And there’s nothing more disappointing than missed opportunities. I’m hoping for better in 2024-25.

Agree 100%
Collins, name came up at Spring Football practice. We were told as of not, he is not going anywhere. For the same reasons I mentioned - there are a few he have in his corner. My thought is, we will see what happen after Dr. Glover, move on.
The off season recruiting, is going to be interesting: IMO< TSU need two big men - size of Jitoboh. It will be easy to replace players in the Guard Position - not impact players like Brown and Hodges. They are in the Transfer Portal, Colling just have to convince them to come to TSU and learn how to coach talent as a team.
Interesting: Transfer Portal
Jordan Sears, leading scorer at UTM Jr. PG Yanic Niederhouse: Northern IL., 6'10 Sophomore Jaylen Davis: Liberty; 6'5, Freshman - G
Demi Dawson, is officially in the portal Several players from UTC. Louisville [Dennis Evans - 7'1; Fr; C] JJ Taylor Univ. Memphis - 6'8 - Fr. Crews from UTM - committed to Missouri

There are coaches out there who can get the job done. Can't wait until Dr. Allen gets the opportunity to make the call on head coaching positions, because his predecessor made some janky hires.

There are some good JUCO players and coaches. Waiting for a call. If Hardaway at UM have another below expectation season. He may be available.

I’ll disagree on Theresa making some bad hires. Cooper was a great hire. Williams was hired because of the players, so I’m told. Ford was a great hire as well. And I can see why she hired Penny. He did well at Cumberland, he’s well supported by the community, and I’m sure Phillips thought she can strike oil again by hiring a young up-and-coming coach, as she did with Ford.
