Just a note the USA Today info is technically for the 2022-2023 academic year. If they do a report for 2023-2024 it'll come out it may come out in June or July. Also keep in mind the revenue reported is for all sports not just football. I point that out because there are some D1 programs who bring in higher revenue for basketball than they do football. There also some school without football that bring in higher revenue than some that do have football. Check out this site KNIGHT-NEWHOUSE College Athletics Database. Their info is through 2022. But it gives you a perspective on D1 revenue and expenses.

Student Fees - 25% Institutional Support - 45%

There is also the fact that Jackson State after leaving the Classic has the option of hosting another home game every year if they desire and earning at least the same amount, realistically more than the payout of the Classic and that is after the Prime Effect. During the Prime Effect era JSU was averaging more than a $1M dollars from the gate alone due to significant attendance growth. This is why I was never upset about JSU leaving the SHC. They can easily make that $800k back at the gate at one home game; they'll be fine.

While some have the facility capacity, they do not have the fan attendance. While others may have the fan attendance, but they do not have a large enough facility in terms of capacity.

Be nice to see attendance and athletic budgets be directly proportional, but they are not..
