This may be an old conversation, but I wonder why we don't see TSU showing up on more fbs schedules? Notre Dame and MTSU recently were just lucky games that fell in our laps. Don't know if the AD is not trying, but with, UT, MTSU, UAB, UL, Memphis, Vanderbilt, and JxSU being so close it shouldn't be hard to keep at least one fbs game a year on the schedule with a reasonable pay check.
Just a conversation piece.

Playing NDSU is like playing a FBS school without the paycheck LOL.. I think after that deal is done; we will see TSU on the schedule of one of the schools you mentioned.

You're right about NDSU. But, if we can win or be competitive it's means a lot for football confidence and profile. As for your your other comment, that's reassuring even though you're not sharing which school.

Depending on what happens with the SHC, I would like to have Memphis on the schedule. My next choices would be Louisville, mTSU, and Vandy.

We could probably demand a nice check from Memphis. I know the alumni would show up for that one. Specially if the team looks good and the band is coming.

TSU normally locks themselves in on the first 2 games of the season:
John Merritt Classic - Labor Day Weekend
Southern Heritage Classic - 2nd weekend in September
By the time TSU is ready to play someone, most FBS schools have played their cupcake home game, and are on the road for their money game.
So now it's Week 3, and some schools even start conference play during that time. And traditionally, TSU tries to play another HBCU game before everyone goes to conference play. After that, there are very slim opportunities to schedule any FBS teams, or even some FCS teams.
With the MEAC down to 6 teams, it's becoming easier for TSU to schedule out of conference opponents, which also happen to be HBCUs.
The other thing is that TSU drags their feet trying to schedule future opponents. If you're not securing some of these money games 3 - 4 years in advance, you're going to miss out, unless it's a special case.
Props to Dr Allen in recent years for not only securing FBS games, but also securing FCS games.
Having said that, he better get on his horse and lock up teams for 2026 and 2027 right now. Don't wait until 2025 to do it.

I disagree with the idea that fbs schools usually have their cupcake games in the first 3 weeks. University of Alabama regularly has late Oct cupcakes games. But you're right, we need to working the schedule several years out.

I’m far from an expert, I expect future FBS games (fball) against FCS teams will be virtually nonexistent with the FBS conferences reshuffling. I expect power 5 schools will use non-power 5 teams as their punching bags.
If that’s the case then we’ll lose out on that revenue stream. Maybe, I said maybe 😂, we’ll have to rethink if the playoffs are worth it vs an opportunity at the Celebration Bowl. I’ll just say the revenue and exposure from the CB may be something to strongly consider.

I think overall, there will be more FCS / Power 5 games now that the Power 5 conferences are becoming dense. You play another power 5 outside of your conference it's almost offsetting to play an FCS team. As for late season Power 5 options...there seems to be slots there for the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The same weekend we played Mississippi State a couple of years ago. This season saw Alabama hosts UT-Chatt and Texas A&M host Abilene Christian. Here's a list of FBS/FCS games in 2023 : www.ncaa.com/news/football/article/2023-08-08/here-every-fcs-vs-fbs-game-scheduled-2023

I'm not against playing mTSU and JxSU. But, folks please don't think we're going to get a check from either of those schools. It's not going to happen because they don't bank like the P5 schools. Quite honestly, playing FAMU, JSU or Southern at home would probably net the same if not more than most G5 schools on the road and would be of greater interest to our fans. Our best bet with G5 schools in terms of fan interest is mTSU or Georgia State. We're not going to get excited over anyone else.
Memphis would be a good FBS game for us simply because we have a large fan base in Memphis. But, I don't see Memphis paying us more than $500K to $600K. They too don't bank like the P5's.
If we want big money games, we'll need to play top tier SEC and Big 10 schools or Colorado (LOL!!!).

Historical Black Colorado University
LOLOLOLOL!!! I will be there!!!!
seriously... My wish..
Play JSU, BamaST, AA&M, FAMU, Southern... Home and Home
Use the 2nd weekend of the season to play: At Memphis At GaState At Louisville At Vandy or At mTSU or UAB
At this point I think joining the MEAC with NCA&T(if they come back) is our best option.

I still can't understand why UT has not played TSU but has played every other FCS school in Tennessee. Also, wouldn't mind seeing Georgia Tech, UGA, Alabama, UK, Ohio State, UCLA, USC, etc.
