I'm going to break this down, and put it in my company's Strategic A3 format. - ( Box 1 ) - Reason for Action: ( What things have caused you to develop a Strategic plan for the athletic department . . in general ) - ( Box 2 ) - Initial State: ( Data to back up the reasons for action, and to provide a baseline for target state improvements ) - ( Box 3 ) - Target State: ( quantifiable data that you can track as target goals ) At the very least, they should have all of this broken down, with baseline numbers to formulate what their target goals are. Now the problem solving phase begins.
- ( Box 4 ) - Gap Analysis: ( Some of you may do a Fishbone analysis or a 5 Why Analysis - Go through the major categories and list the gaps for each. Break each gap down as far as you can, in order to get to the root cause of the problem. ) - ( Box 5 ) - Solution Approach: ( From the root causes, develop solutions to these root causes that you can turn into viable action items. People or specific groups should be assigned as the owner of each solution. ) - ( Box 6 ) - Rapid Experiments: ( Are there any solutions that you can do a trial run on, in order to validate that they can work? Most rapid experiments are something that you can do immediately, with little planning )
Once we get through the problem solving phase, now it's time for action and to track our results - ( Box 7 ) - Action Items: ( The owners of each solution will come up with action items that they can implement, so that their solution can be achieved. You will possibly have separate owners to smaller action items, to help make your solution a reality ) - ( Box 8 ) - Confirmed State: ( This is the section where your stated goals in Box 3, are tracked to see if they are realized. Example, if TSU stated a goal to reach 16 scholarship sports by November 2024, you would track each month how many scholarship sports you have until you get to 16. Once you get to 16+ sports, your goal has been achieved. ) - ( Box 9 ) - Insights: ( Once you have achieved, or not achieved all of your goals, what are the insights or lessons learned that you can take away from this? ) I'd love to facilitate a week long Kaizen event on this subject. What Dr Allen said was nice, but it doesn't have any teeth behind it because he's not stating any numbers.

The plan is very general at the moment. I hope to see a more detailed version soon. I have my eyes set on ways I would like to contribute.

Maybe someone can shed some light > at this point shouldn’t we have plan with some detail? I’m getting a corporate vibe where folks talk in broad/high level strokes.

The meat will be in Jan 2024 strategic plan. At practice yesterday. Had a brief conversation with Doc., he mention something about the plan. But no details. I asked about the Hockey program. He is working with a local vendor to produce authentic hockey jerseys for sale. Also, briefly mentioned trying to convivence the legislators to with Hale. Not sure why he feel that will happen. And establishing business partnership's. Oh, Dr. briefly mentioned something about the Sports Complex - "Makes no sense for the players to practice on the hill and have to walk to Gentry and Indoor Practice Field. Some of the same things that has been mentioned in the Podcast.

Strategic plans rarely if ever contain specifics. It's the leadership team behind the plan that is most important. If you have leadership that will use the plan as a tool for driving change, increasing revenue, increasing support, etc., then the plan will indeed serve a purpose and aid in staying focus on the desired outcome. If you have leadership that is mostly concerned with optics and appeasement then the plan will be useless.
I'm hoping 50 is right and that we will see specifics in January. However, keep in mind that too is going to be a strategic plan for the university as a whole. It's possible that the athletics strategic plan just gets incorporated into the universities strategic plan. So, I'm hoping that Dr. Allen will provide regularly scheduled updates to the facilitation of the athletics strategic plan. At minimum he should consider conducting quarterly updates to all stakeholders. Those updates should detail specifics about achieved goals and next steps for goals in progress, etc.

For those looking for details about conference affiliation or FBS, I would suggest you stop holding your breath on that. I don't think we'll see much transparency on that until such a change is ready to be announced. There will probably be non-disclosure agreements in place while such discussions are taking place with any potential conference that TSU could be considering, if TSU is considering a conference change at all. The same would apply if TSU is being sought after by other conferences, including FBS conferences. Be prepared for Dr. Allen to indirectly address that subject when asked. In other words he'll either state that TSU is not currently pursuing a conference change if that is the case or he will say that we are always exploring what we believe to be in the best interest of our program and that options are being considered. No specifics on that will be revealed until a decision is closed to being finalized.

I hear ya DC and agree. I’m just anxious to see a detailed plan from the AD on moving forward (the evaluation stage should be over) > something that’ll light a serious spark, get the fan base fired up as well as the students.

At least show us rendering of the new football operations building!! Renderings of proposed buildings are not strategic. Besides the renderings of the proposed football operations building have been released and I suspect they'll be in the university building master plan.
