I don't think one band outshined the other. I will say that I liked that the SLB's song selection was better on the field. They recognized it was our HC and they played songs that appealed to varying generations.
I am not a fan of the AOBs dance routine being done while in concert formation. Again, somethings just don't work well. That doesn't to me. And, still not a fan of just dancing to the tubas and percussion sections. We should more skilled than that.
So, I change my mind... the SLB edged out over the AOB.

Always enjoyed the Spartan Legion. They're a little different than the other hbcu bands.

DC, yeah it seems the tuba/drum dance routine is the new school. playing while dancing was something we boasted about because not many were still doing it. I think the 100 and Grambling are the only ones still doing it, might just be the 100 cause Grambling dances on dang near everything.

I think the 100 and Grambling are the only ones still doing it, might just be the 100 cause Grambling dances on dang near everything. BCU and NCA&T still play and dance at the same time. Others may play and dance at the beginning of their dance routine then shift to the tuba/drum thing. I just think the dance routines are more exciting when they are playing. And, while I don't necessarily think the band has to be in block formation to perform the dance routine, being in concert formation just looks lame to me. It seems like something a PWI would do just to say they danced. A throwback to the block formation splitting into three sections and each section performing a specific dance would be a welcomed return in my opinion. This video is the 1985 CCC. The routine kept the fans engaged and to me the dance routine set-up was dynamic in that it gave the audience variety.
