You all know I love the AOB, but sometimes we have to be honest about their actions, or lack thereof during a football game. I'm really disappointed in their lack of involvement during a game. The AOB sat in silence pretty much during most of the game. Not really cheering for the team, not trying to distract KSU when they were playing towards the end zone the AOB was sitting in. They can't argue that nonsense that OVC rules prevents them from playing during game play because this wasn't an OVC game and KSU's band not only played when they had the ball, they played when TSU had the ball.
KSU's band was fully engaged in the game from beginning to end. The AOB was not. I just don't get their lack of game savviness. Not once did they chant Let's Go or Defense. NOTHING. During a long official time out, they literally sat their doing nothing. That would have been the time for them to crank it up.
Please help me understand this lack of game involvement. It's getting worse from one season to another. It's really disappointing.

I take issue with a lot of these Gen Z and Gen Alpha mush mouth rap tunes.
Can we get a little more old school R&B and rap/hip hop, especially in the stands?

Hope they are ready for NSU next week. NSU has been upping their game and they have some pretty good shows and music selection.

I've said for a while that I think band staff should meet with football staff about when and what to play during certain game situations. This would tremendously help the stadium atmosphere.

I do know that in the past, especially during OVC play, the AoB has been picked on by officials, even getting penalties at various times for playing during live action, so they may be trying to take additional precautions to not get the team penalized. But there has to be a healthy line drawn.

Funkiejunkie, I had a conversation with Dr. Allen about a year or so ago on the subject of fan engagement. During that conversation he said he had plans to initiate a fan engagement committee that he wanted to address band participation and other options during games to increase fan engagement. To my knowledge he never did. He said he would invite me to be on the committee. I never received that invite. The committee was to consist of alumni, students, athletic personnel, band personnel and cheer team personnel. I think there is just a total lack of concern for increasing fan engagement. Dr. McDonald clearly doesn't have a clue. Just excuses. I think egos and defensive reactions get in the way when suggestions are made to Athletic and Band leadership. They take suggestions as people telling them how to do their jobs as opposed to listening to viewpoints that could improve support and engagement.
As far as the OVC goes, the real issue is that the AOB wants to sit their a play whole songs during a game. That just doesn't make sense. The band has never been asked to tone it down when they play a cheer or chant like Let's Go or Defense prior to the teams getting set for the next play. NEVER. So, there's no excuse to not have chants and cheers throughout the game. They instead just sit there like zombies. Most conferences, including the OVC have very simple rules for bands. Most primarily ask that the bands not play once the QB approaches the line to run the next play. Once the ball is snapped, bands can pretty much do whatever they want until the next play. Some conferences like the SWAC has rules that says the bands can only play when their specific team has the ball. That's loosely enforced. I've not seen where a band has been penalized for leading a DEFENSE chant.

That committee needs to happen, and ASAP.
