Memphis Basketball Player Jamirah Shutes Charged With Assault After Punch Thrown At WNIT Game
Campus police have charged University of Memphis women’s basketball team player Jamirah Shutes with assault after she punched Bowling Green State University player Elissa Brett March 23.
The incident, caught on camera, followed BGSU’s 73-60 win against Memphis. The two teams competed on BGSU’s home court to determine which would advance in the Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT)

What she did was absolutely wrong and should be penalized. But charged with assault is a little much. Grayson Allen was never charged for being a dirty player his entire four years.

Agreed Madness, but in one article somewhere they actually set a precedence by stating that it happened after the game.

Madness I agree. Dumb move by the Memphis player, just shake hands and keep it moving. Looking at the video, the Bowling Green girl lays out like Mike Tyson hit her. It wasn't even a punch...looks more like a mush face or slap. Either way, both have to be smarter than that. Sportsmanship is not taught anymore, whether it's players, coaches or fans. People don't have a line they stop at and it's starting to show more and more.
We had a whole fist fight break out at the end of a TSU/Murray game between Bruce Price and a Murray State guard when I was in school. A friend of the Murray State guard actually jumped in. A TSU football player broke it up. While charges could've been charged on the friend or even the Murray guard for throwing the first punch...I think it would've been excessive. Let the conference suspend the player(s). I feel like you file assault charges if this someone is attacked...you can see the Bowling Green guard provoking then playing victim here.
