Bethune-Cookman coaching search: 5 potential candidates after Ed Reed departure Bethune-Cookman now has to choose its second head football coach in as many months. It came to an agreement in principle with Pro Football Hall of Famer Ed Reed on Dec. 27. But last week, after Reed made controversial and profanity-laced remarks about the school on social media, Bethune-Cookman’s administration decided not to finalize Reed’s contract. The good news: Athletic Director Reggie Theus and his hiring committee just went through this. During an interview with HBCU Gameday, Theus said he received over 100 resumes and created two lists — a short list of three big names, including Reed, and a secondary list. www.news-journalonline.com/story/sports/college/football/2023/01/27/bethune-cookman-football-coaching-search-5-candidates-b-cu/69830732007/

I actually like this list. Yeah, IMO any of those hires would be good - put the SWAC on notice. Would love to see Sumlin as the HC - thought he was with the USFL

I still can't figure out how Reed got the call over Sumlin. Unless there was big difference in pay request.

Here's another name that may be a surprise, but I think would do a good job. I think our former coach, Rod Reed, would win at BCU. He already has ties to the school, as he coached at BCU as an assistant under Shine. He has always recruited Florida well (Charles Anthony, Stephon Godbolt, and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie to name a few).

Bluetigga I agree 100%. His winning percentage vs. HBCU's is great!

Bethune-Cookman expected to hire former Florida State, Oregon assistant Raymond Woodie as head coach Bethune-Cookman is expected to hire Raymond Woodie as head coach, a source tells On3. Woodie, a Bethune-Cookman alum, has worked at places such as FAU, spent the last 13 seasons working under Willie Taggart at a combination of Western Kentucky, USF, Oregon, Florida State and FAU. Woodie was Taggart’s associate head coach, recruiting coordinator, outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at FAU. He was Florida State’s linebackers coach in 2018 and ’19 and the special teams coordinator and outside linebackers under Taggart at Oregon. www.on3.com/news/bethune-cookman-expected-to-hire-former-florida-state-oregon-assistant-raymond-woodie-as-head-coach/

He's an alum, I really hope it works out well for Cookman! He's definitely playing from behind the eightball, but he lives in a football hotbed state, so he may be able to corral some talent.

I don't think he's playing as far behind as folks think. People are giving way too much credence to Ed Reed profanity laced tirade.

Then go out and recruit after both early and normal signing days have past. With the transfer portal and last qualifiers, there is still a pool to recruit from...but he's playing from behind.
