UAB hires former NFL star, ESPN analyst Trent Dilfer as next head football coach Trent Dilfer, the 14-year NFL veteran quarterback and Super Bowl XXXV champion, was announced Wednesday as the seventh head coach in the history of UAB football. “I like big climbs,” the 50-year-old said Wednesday at the UAB Alumni House. “I wish I was a better athlete these days. He has turned out some good players from the School Dilfer is light years ahead of EG as a HC. Why would he work for EG? For example, Dilfer really knows the game including officiating. As an official, (called a few his games) you sometimes hate to call his games but you know to be on point and on top of plays because he will be all over you if you are not. |

True about Dilfer,
Just a thought, the same as I mentioned when EG became the HC.
It was also said Hugh, knew more football than EG, but he was the OC at TSU.

Trent changed the culture at Lipscomb. The parents and some of the true Lipscomb supporters were not happy. They didn't like when he brought in players from out of state while their son sat the bench. Some of the old traditions were removed under Trent, that didn't go well with the alumni, like moving from the traditional purple and gold uniforms. He went to purple and black. It will be interesting....

Sounds like it was a bit more than he was ready for. If Eddie could have gotten him as an OC, the media in Nashville would eaten that up.

Honestly, I never thought he'd make a great coach. ESPN hyped him, but he's just a regular dude. May not be a bad QB coach or coordinator though.
Ironically, former Titan Kevin Mawae replaced him at Lipscomb, and he is no longer there. Wouldn't mind him as an OL coach.

To be fair...it's the beginning of his second season. I wouldn't throw in the towel yet. 1 loss was to Arkansas by 10 points. The other 2 losses are to G5 teams with good records (Navy 4-0 and ULM 3-1). ULM's only loss is to Texas. I'll judge him more in season 3, if he gets it.

The other 2 losses are to G5 teams with good records (Navy 4-0 and ULM 3-1). ULM's only loss is to Texas. I'll judge him more in season 3, if he gets it. They were 2-10 last year and hired a new coach LOL That said, ULM plays James Madison this weekend, who may score 100 on them. |

I thought when the previous head coach went to Indiana, JMU would take a step back. I was wrong big time. They may have gotten better. |

And ULM takes down JMU. However, Dilfer still had a tough Saturday. Tulane put up 70 on UAB.
