It wouldn't shock me if FAMU made that announcement again. This time they probably have everything in place to follow through. Also feel like AA&M quietly preparing as well. The current SWAC member institutions will not move to the FBS independently without the entire conference or at least eight members moving as a group. There is a plan for the conference. This is based on the current leadership (presidents/chancellors and boards) of the SWAC membership institutions and the revenue distribution generated by the conference office (commissioner) of over $1M per institution (growing at $100K per year and will jump in 2026) in the 2022-2023 athletic calendar year. If this plan comes to fruition it at least opens the door for Tennessee State and North Carolina A&T to potentially join with them. Should this plan not come to fruition in the next two years, I think any HBCU with aspirations to move up to FBS will need to do so sooner rather than later. As you stated in a previous posting, there are several HWCU's that are exploring moving up as well. Two that I can think of are within the geographical region of CUSA. Both APSU and EKU have indicated they are planning to move up. I would like to see FAMU, JSU, NCA&T and TSU all make a move to CUSA.

I agree it would provide an opportunity for North Carolina A&T State University and Tennessee State University with SWAC institutions moving the FBS level. I would also agree, the above listed four HBCUs would work well as expansion members of CUSA. However, while I would not speak on behalf of North Carolina A&T State University and Tennessee State University, the SWAC member presidents/chancellors are not leaving as individual institutions or even as a group of two, three or four.

I wonder if all fbs schools currently comfortably maintain that status and what happens if they don't? If schools start moving down, I wonder how long before a watered down version of this is updated for fcs?
But I'm not surprised by this at all. They were to going to have to do something sooner or latter redefine separation.

Even bigger than the application fee:
"All FBS programs are required to provide at least 90 percent of available scholarships across 16 sports, including football. Additionally, FBS teams must fund 210 scholarships per year, totaling no less than $6 million. (Effective 2027)"

Man, I know the fellas and I on A Few TSU Sports Fans are no Colin Cowherd or Chris Berman, but these cats are tough to listen to. It’s like watching paint dry waiting for their comments or questions.
Good questions to Beth, though. I think she’s aware of movement that’s gonna happen soon.

You guys are way more engaging than they are. Listening to them is like listening to the teacher from Ferris Beuller
