Brett Favre wanted welfare money to recruit Shedeur Sanders to Southern Miss Brett Favre lobbied for funding for University of Southern Mississippi athletic programs to help recruit current Jackson State quarterback Sheduer Sanders to the school, according to published reports. In addition to asking then-Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant to allocate $5 million in Temporary Assistance for Needy Family dollars toward a volleyball court, Favre also pushed for an additional $1.5 million to build an indoor football facility that could attract Sanders, the son of JSU head coach Deion Sanders, Front Office Sports reported. “I picked up Deion Sanders and his son who is going to be a junior hbcusports.com/2022/09/24/brett-favre-wanted-welfare-money-to-recruit-shedeur-sanders-to-southern-miss/

But the same governor is giving JSU a hard time for asking for funds to build a new stadium. WOW! Either way, that money should've gone to those who actually need it. I don't think Brett & the governor are humble enough to understand how much trouble they could actually be in.

This should be a bigger story than Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem. But, it's a white man with celebrity status, taking money intended for some of the poorest people in the poorest state in America. So, do not be surprised if nothing comes of this. This is the real America we live in. If the so-called king of England sneezes without someone covering his mouth, that'll be a bigger story.

I think you're referring too the old democratic governor whose opinion about it was recently in the news. They are actually trying swindle JSU out of Veterans Memorial for little or nothing as a trade-off for an on campus stadium.

You're right, that's the former governor is who Favre worked with, Republican Gov. Phil Bryant. However, in the article posted from HBCU Gameday (see below), the current Republican Governor Tate Reeves tries to deflect from the Favre/Bryant situation by bringing up JSU requesting a new stadium...as if that's somehow on par or worse than this misuse of funds situation with Favre/Bryant. hbcugameday.com/2022/09/17/mississippi-gov-tate-reeves-distracts-from-usm-with-jackson-state-reference/
