So, enrollment increased for fall 2019. Per the chart presented, 2018 enrollment was 7,780. 2019 enrollment is 8,090. That's about a 4% increase in one year. TSU would need to sustain that type of growth for 3 years to get back to the 2015 enrollment of 9,170. I hope that this years growth will trigger even faster growth. I would like to see TSU reach 10K in 5 years or less.
I wish they would give more info on the various committee report other than approving them. I would like to know what 2 real estate projects they gave the university approval to move forward with. Is it for the new dorms and the alumni/visitor center? Maybe I missed that since I was trying to jump through all the parliamentarian procedural stuff.

The fall of 2019 class was the second largest class in TSU’s history. The problem is keeping these students. Let’s hope a vast majority stays. And with the opening of two new dorms next year, I hope next years’ class is the largest ever.

Per the attached letter, the Board of Trustees approved for Dr. Glover to move forward with two real estate projects. One appears to be construction on TSU property near the main campus. the facility will include classrooms, labs, event space and will serve the Nashville music industry. The second real estate project involves the possible lease or sale of property near the Avon Williams campus for development purposes. Click on the link to see a photo of the letter from the Trustees. TSU Real Estate Projects.jpg (117.39 KB) I wonder what property TSU owns near the main campus that they are wanting build on and just what is the purpose for the building. Especially the part about serving the Nashville industry. I'm not surprised that TSU would be looking to sal or lease land near the downtown campus. With the Nashville Yards project between Broadway and Church Street underway, any property in that area will be in high demand from developers. The developers of Nashville Yards has already been looking to expand their footprint. So, if TSU is going to sell property in downtown, now would be the time to do it before the next slow down hits the construction industry. It's going to happen. It's just a matter of when. Nashville however, might not be impacted as much given that it's still in a major growth phase.

I believe the property downtown is located across the street from the campus - the TSU Incubation Research Center on10th Avenue North.
I need to contact a friend that work with the State Building Commission

TSU needs the cash and we also need to come up with ways to generate more revenue as a research institute. Last year, utk architecturecame up with an idea to for TSU to make money off of its downtown campus. archdesign.utk.edu/tsu/Leasing to an apartment complex that had some eateries would be a great idea for TSU. I am not sure what land they would use on TSU main campus. The wet land idea was totally scrapped. I am going to assume it will be on 28th and Jefferson. I also haven't heard any word from that rocket company in North Nashville.

TSU doesn’t need to sell a lot of its assets, but I think it’s smart to sell some of its property in this heightened and overpriced Nashville economy. That downtown property is a viable source of revenue if used properly. Also, purchasing land around TSU has been part of their short-term plan for the past couple of years. I’m glad to see they are making gains on that and not having to depend on business persons with TSU interest. Also, if they’re doing something that will hope to bring in the Nashville community, the location of this building must be on 28th. Probably a section near Walter Davis. I like what’s going on in Tiger country.

I am om campus a lot and the only construction going on is the new Health Science Building adjacent to the Women's Building.
Madness, years ago TSU attempted to purchase the property adjacent to Kean and Hadley Park near Friendship Church. The university also attempted to buy the property at the intersection of W S Davis and Tigerbell Drive - not sure what was the final decision.
There was an attempt over ten years ago to but the property where those apartment are located adjacent Ford Housing - the apartments are still there.
Where are the 8090 Students.

That retirement home and that gas station really need to be relocated. That space should be TSU’s.

That retirement home and that gas station really need to be relocated. That space should be TSU’s. Definitely the gas station. It is an eyesore and there really isn't a need for two gas stations in that one area. I always thought it was a bad decision by the city when they allowed Circle K to buy the buildings that used to be where the Marathon gas station sits today. For those who don't remember, there used to be store fronts that stretched along that corner to the alley way that splits between the two Marathon gas stations. I believe the second Marathon location was always a gas station. I think it started out as a Gulf, then became a BP before becoming Marathon. The buildings that used to be on the corner up to the alley housed a barbershop, I believe a tailor/seamstress, maybe a hair salon and I believe at one point there may have been a electronic store/repair shop. Diagonally across the street was a BBQ/Fish joint where the vacant lot sits. Yes they were old buildings, but they actually provided some character to the area. Especially the stores where the Marathon station sits on the corner. It wasn't this open gas station look that can look very unattractive at times. Also helped that TSU had a billboard on the opposite side of the street with a huge tiger on it and it was used to announce the football and basketball schedules and scores. Dr. Glover keeps talking about a new archway entry to the campus. We've not seen a design. Nor have we've seen if it's going to require purchasing additional land. I suspect it'll require restructuring of the intersection.

One of those stations was operated by Paul Harper.
TSU had an opportunity to own the property where both stations are located. As well as the property adjacent to Hadley Park, not sure what happened. I am thinking, it had something to do with the underground storage tanks.
I think it was under Dr. Shields, there was some talk about purchasing the Retirement Home, the city said no and there were life long residents saying no.
That entire corner is an eyesore, including Wendy's

Had a conversation yesterday / discussion with the new dorm.
Told that the new dorms will be constructed between Eppse Hall and the Performing Arts Center.
So very little green space remaining on the campus.
