Wonder if they are on the OVC radar. If they are successful, be nice if they have a HBCUs type of band since their demographic fits an HBCU.
TIME WILL TELL

If they are actually considering football, the ovc should be looking at them. And probably try to convince butler and Morehead to move back into scholarship status for football.
Don't know if they have a music program, but I could see them pushing more towards a marching band with our style of marching and performance

I know they are division 1 in sports.
Would they be looking to field an FCS football team?
NAIA? DIV 2?
CSU is a REALLY small state college...REALLY small.
Just wondering....

So since they trying to get real, probably need to bump this thread. I wonder how long will they be able to last as an independent.

Whats interesting to me is that their enrollment isn't even at the 2,000 mark. We know how hard it is for smaller hbcu's to maintain and be successful at the D2 level.
I seriously wonder if a small Black college of this size can feasibly sustain and succeed at this level WITH FOOTBALL.
I guess time will tell. Good luck, Cougars.

Chicago State Begins Fundraising to Bring Division I Football Team to the South Side The Board of Trustees of Chicago State University (CSU) has approved a proposal to immediately move forward with a public fundraising campaign to expand the University’s athletics programming. Fundraising will support the expansion of Division I sports and potentially add a Division I FCS (Football Championship Subdivision). The Board also approved the launch of a women’s triathlon program, set to begin in fall 2024. The addition of the triathlon and sports expansion fundraising were based on recommendations from a sports exploratory committee formed earlier this year...
What conference do you think they will eventually land in? OVC and MEAC come to mind.

Chicago State University To Join Northeast Conference Move represents significant progress for CSU Athletics’ expansion strategyCHICAGO (Dec. 5, 2023) – Chicago State University (CSU) today announced it has accepted an invitation to join the Northeast Conference (NEC) beginning in the fall of 2024. This decision on a new conference home, which was unanimously approved on Monday by the CSU Board of Trustees, marks another milestone for CSU’s Athletic Department; the department recently revealed plans to add a women’s triathlon program in fall 2024 and launched a fundraising campaign to expand its sports offerings, most notably pursuing the potential to add FCS Division I football (Football Championship Subdivision), which would be the only Division I football program in the City of Chicago. The full NEC conference membership will be for the university’s 15 men’s and women’s sports.
CSU President Zaldwaynaka "Z" Scott, CSU’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Monique Carroll and NEC Commissioner Noreen Morris will announce the official partnership at an 11 a.m. press conference today.
“Chicago State University has determined the Northeast Conference is the best fit for the university and our athletic programs,” said President Scott. “Our move to the NEC, a thriving conference with strong academic and athletic traditions, will continue to raise the university’s profile by increasing its visibility and our growing reach across the country. We look forward to a great conference relationship and beginning a new era of sports programming.”
Beginning in fall 2024, the NEC’s membership will consist of eight schools including Central Connecticut State University, Chicago State, Fairleigh Dickinson University, Le Moyne College, Long Island University, Saint Francis University, Stonehill College and Wagner College.article: www.csu.edu/news/CSU_join_Northeast_conference.htm

They are making progress but this is likely temporary.
