Surely FAMU didn’t make that comment. 🤦🏽♂️

I agree with him. If famu, pva&m, or JSU win out, a lot people would curious about seeing one or all three matching up against other fcs powers. And while it won't have the same immediate financial impact, one of them going 2 or 3 games deep, will drive ratings.
However, famu should have been talking about that before they joined the swac. They should have been looking at asun.
Now comes the new question. If the swac decides to not open up that possibility, how long will famu stay put?

Was it Coach Joe (That used to coach Central St) that had the Florida classic's date changed in order for FAMU to be eligible for the playoffs... That was during an era FAMU was really balling. I believe they beat Troy in the playoffs one year in the 1st round. TSU lost to Appalachian ST that same year if I am not mistaken. Same time frame anyway..

They should have been looking at asun. Now comes the new question. If the swac decides to not open up that possibility, how long will famu stay put? If FAMU beat JSU they would be leading the eastern division of the SWAC which would position them to win that division and go to the SWAC championship. The SWAC Championship game is played well after the FCS playoffs begin. It seems to me that since FAMU currently is not in that position because they lost to JSU, they now want to have the option to play in the FCS playoffs. FAMU knows that the SWAC more than likely is not going to do away with the SWAC championship game. So, it appears that FAMU wants the NCAA to give them and other SWAC schools options that are not afforded to other conferences. It should not be presented as if HBCU's are being restricted from the playoffs. Clearly they are not. The SWAC chose an option that restricts their member schools from the playoffs. It was a decision that apparently SWAC members were in agreement with. Now, if FAMU wants to be considered for the playoffs they should either push for a change in the SWAC or they should propose an option to the NCAA that pushes the playoffs further into the month of December and allow other conferences to hold a championship game if they so desire, the winners of the championship games get auto bid into the playoffs, conference that don't have a championship game will send their winner based on conference rules and the rest of the playoff brackets can be filled in with the top FCS school that didn't win their conference.

If FAMU was ranked in the top 10 but JSU won the conference division, they may be able to get an at large bid... Not sure but maybe. If this is case case, FAMU should strengthen its non conference schedule like NCA&T did in order to have this option in the future. At one time I believe the choice was given to the individual school to choose which option they may pursue..

FAMU is eligible for the playoffs now, I would think he AD knows that (but I've seen crazier things). Playing devil's advocate here, I think the AD is trying to take a more proactive than reactive approach to playoff inclusion.
Keep in mind, in 2019 or 2018, South Carolina State definitely should've gotten an automatic bid to the playoffs. They beat Wofford pretty good, ended up going 8-3, only to get passed up by other 8-3 teams with weaker resumes. Not to mention Wofford made the playoffs. There was a lot of commotion AFTER the bracket came out.
I think this approach is to make sure the noise is there BEFORE the bracket comes out. Especially, with the current polls not showing HBCUs, mainly the SWAC, a lot of love. Also, since the SWAC split into two division (1999), they have not received a playoff bid.
