It comes down to what you all discussed.. If we have a sponsor and can play on campus with minimum cost, then it is a no brainer. I think the students may get into it once they are exposed to it. We can put a unique twist on hockey. HBCU style!! Hockey is a more expensive sport than baseball to build, manage, and sustain. Agreed.. which is why it would not make sense without a major sponsor like the NHL and Nashville Predators. The NHL is likely trying to avoid what is going on with baseball (older fan base and dwindling interest among AAs) They are probably trying to get ahead of the curve and build a base of younger fans and make hockey cool. (Unlike baseball) Hockey is expensive. If the NHL wants to grow, they have to make an investment in the inner city where there is no presence. Baseball should do the same. We had little league teams in the hood growing up but now there aren't nearly as many.

At best, they may provide some seed money to help start the program. However, the cost to maintain the program will have to come from the university. That is money that will be moved from current sports offerings.

I also don't think this current administration can maintain this enrollment growth.

I also don't think this current administration can maintain this enrollment growth. Right, since all the happening at TSU this semester - talked to a few students during the games - a lot said they will not return at the end of this semester or at the end of the school year. Now, that's going to be "Embarrassing" to Glover, after she boasted about the enrollment. It's going to take more than establishing a Customer Service Department" something the students has been asking for for years. Then it will not be effective, if there are no resources to operate and being staffed by those that failed to provide a similar service while they were working in other areas. Bandages don't stop the bleeding during Heart Surgery She and her staff has a lot of work to do!!!

If the seed money is provided, we will need continued sponsorship and sustained growth and funding. One thing for sure, TSU would be foolish to just say no if the NHL is willing to help start the program. IF it is not successful, let's not let it be because we did not try.

Keep in mind that any hockey program started at TSU, will be a "club team" and not a full fledged "scholarship team". This means that the school will NOT be funding the team through the athletic department.
If you're talking about a club team, TSU will only be playing games regionally, with operating expenses being offered through private donations, apparel sales or advertising opportunities. In fact, the kids will have to PAY to play. Like $2K - $4K a player.
The school will have to rent out arena time to practice and host games, and be responsible for transportation and other basic needs. But the money will have to be raised via donations or payments from participating athletes.
A hockey team at TSU will not be playing on campus. They'll be playing games at some of the ice centers around the city, like the Ford Center. Vandy's and MTSU's hockey teams plays at the Ford Ice Center in Bellevue. So if TSU gets a team, they'll play there as well. Once the F&M Arena in Clarksville is completed, don't be surprised if Austin Peay tries to field a club hockey team as well.
Think of college club hockey being like High School basketball AAU, from a funding standpoint.

Got to start with a club team and see where it goes. Be nice for mTSU, Vandy, Peay, and TSU to be in a hockey conference down the road. Founding Members!

That seems like a lot just to have a club. All the hype, all the articles, communication, and energy, just to field a club team? Maybe it’s just me, but I think our time and efforts could be better spent elsewhere, if true.
