Sounds like Southern has the tools. Smart to promote within.... I did not know they lost to Pine Bluff... No one talks about Pine Bluff. They may be the sleeper.

I think it's hard for anyone to give UAPB any credit, but they've been decent for a few years. However, I think they did lose a few key players to the transfer portal this spring.

And that was a good Southern squad. Unfortunately, Skelton (SU's QB) got pulled after getting an unsportsmanlike penalty. I notice teams like to talk to him and taunt him to get him mad. He has to control how he responds. He's plays with a lot of fire, which I like, but he has to understand teams are trying to get into your head. Now, I'm not taking anything way from UAPB because they played a good game. SU had a good defense but couldn't stop UAPB's offense. Oddly enough, Skelton is from Pine Bluff and UAPB's QB is from New Orleans. So I'm sure both play with a chip on their shoulder when facing their home state school. Crat, I'm not understanding the UAPB disrespect either. I think the consensus was UAPB upset SU, rather than they were better than SU. I tend to think SU had the best squad in the west in the spring, but you gotta give UAPB their credit. They also only lost to AAMU by a touchdown (40-33) in the SWAC championship. With Alcorn moving over, it makes the West that much harder, but I think you have to factor in UAPB. I think the West is a three team race with Alcorn, Southern, and UAPB. I think the East is also a three team race with Alabama A&M, FAMU, and Jackson State. |
