COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Benedict College Tigers have been invited to participate in one of the largest and most prestigious HBCU classic football games, and will take on the Kentucky State Thorobreds in the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis, Ind. on Sept. 25.
“This is truly an honor to be invited to take part in the Circle City Classic,” said Willie Washington, Benedict College Director of Athletics. “The Circle City Classic is regarded as one of the premier HBCU Classic games in the country, and our team, the Benedict College Marching Band of Distinction, and our alumni and fans are all excited to be a part of this historic event.”

I'm glad CCC was able to find someone willing to play there.

Something tells me it’s not going to be heavily attended. Gonna keep my eye on this one.
To be honest, now with all the recent COVID cases, many games may not be heavily attended this year.

I think it'll hit FCS a lot harder than it will FBS (especially power 5). But I'm interested to see how attendance is effected as well.

I doubt this would be heavily attended even without covid. Not sure those two names get enough attention to draw in a lot of casual fans.

Its not like either school has 1) a huge following and 2) how many in the Naptown area even know about these 2 schools to want to attend the game? Granted it will be a good game because Kentucky State plays you HARD.... Benedict is no joke either. Both are usually 2 tough teams to beat in the SIAC. BOTH have pretty good bands and will surely entertain the crowds.
But the CCC doesn't have the same appeal as it used to and they're not paying enough to get the BIGGER DRAWS like they used to back in the day. So it is what it is. Once they started scheduling teams to play 2 years in a row, I knew they had hit rock bottom. The draw of the CCC was seeing exciting DIFFERENT teams, bands, fans, etc. ever year.

Jay, I think you are speaking from a band geek perspective. To be honest I only considered paying attention to KSU because we had a former band director working there at one point. Can't say that I've ever stopped to listen to Benidict. And I've said it before, but the CCC lost me when they sent several people over to tell the AOB to be quiet and stick to script. I talked to a gentleman once that was helping out in the early days of CCC, who talked about how much of a party in the stands it used to be. But once sponsors started rolling in wanting to have commercials played on the big screen. The bands had to take the back seat and tried to entertain the crowd like you would at a non-HBCU event. Down hill from there.
Now, to directly disagree with something you said. We can agree to disagree. I think having 2 to 4 year contracts individually for each school might not be a bad idea. Have two schools play consecutively, then swap one team out to start a four contract with another team. Every two years is a different match up, but the area also has a chance to get familiar with one or both teams for a minute. Probably could do well for schools academic and athletic recruiting.

'Bandgeek" perspective? Not at all, but I digress. I'm not at all saying that the 2-4- year thing is a bad idea. I am saying THE FORMULA CHANGED and it changed because a lot of the past participants probably wanted more $$$$ which I don't blame them for, which looks like it left the organizers scrambling to see what else would work. Nothing wrong with shaking things up. I'm just remembering how it USED to be and how the hoosier dome would be packed even with it being aired on BET [in those glory days].

It hit media for a couple of days and died quickly. I don't think enough people cared to keep talking about it
