Looking for renderings for TSU’s new Alumni Hall, I ran into this; archdesign.utk.edu/tsu/. It’s an April 26, 2019 article with possible renderings of a new design for TSU’s Avon Williams Campus. Only problem, Nashville’s Civic Design Center partnered with UTK students to come up with the design. From what I can tell, it looks nice, but wish they had included TSU architectural students in the design. Not sure if this is wishful thinking or a true plan.
The buildings around the campus will not belong to TSU. It has me thinking....I know Glover wants a university hotel on campus by the river, however she would probably get more city and private support with a plan for downtown.
It's a concept based on the idea of redeveloping the entire area between Charlotte Pike and Broadway between the railroad tracks and Rosa Parks Blvd (8th Ave.). The development called Nashville Yards just south of the TSU downtown campus is what is driving conceptual ideas in and around the area. The Nashville Civic Design Center doesn't actually build anything. In simple terms they help the city with urban development planning. Very few of these concepts actually come to fruition as NCDC presents them. But, it gives the city a blueprint in development of certain areas of town. The same was done decades ago for SoBro and the Gulch. Now, given the growth in Nashville right now, a concept like the one presented for the Avon Williams campus, could happen much sooner than most, because developers are looking for prospective development opportunities all over the city. Some people who are really supportive of expansive development in downtown, would love to see TSU sell the campus or do a land swap with a developer.
