That's good news. But man, the SBR and the State can really take forever to get these things approved. It's a crying shame that this is being announced in 2017 and the buildings won't be done till sometime in 2019. That's a sign that the process really needs to be streamlined.

I'm trying to figure out where they will be placed on campus... A few years back there was a discussion about developing the property located on the southwest side of the campus, which would be on the hill behind Hankel Hall and Wilma Rudolph Hall. So, that's one possibility. I've also heard that there's a possibility of developing the property that runs along Ed Temple Blvd. between John Merritt Blvd and Schrader Lane with the idea of creating a more urban feel to that area as opposed to the suburban/rural look it currently has. Which makes since because if you think about it, for a campus that is located in an urban city, it doesn't quite feel like it. If you didn't know that TSU is located in a major city and you saw pictures of it for the first time, you'd think it was in Clarksville. Not Nashville. At the very least you wouldn't think it was literally just a few miles from downtown. You'd think it was way out in the suburbs of Nashville. Thus the reason why TSU needs to develop the campus to create more density and to connect it more to the area where it sits. I think by developing the land on Ed Temple Blvd. that it will spur developers to do more in the area of Jefferson St., Ed Temple and John Merritt. After all you are creating a walking population for small restaurants and retailers given that you'd be adding more students in the area closest to that intersection. The are will never be West End. But, with proper planning and development it could have a more urban neighborhood feel that is grounded by TSU and also Fisk and Meharry.

We still haven't built the health science building yet and we have had funding for two years. That might have some consequences for us. The TSU board just approved the strategic plan last meetin. They are also going to request some funding for a new engineering building. www.tnstate.edu/board/documents/FINAL%20Board%20MATERIALS.pdf

From my understanding, the new dorms will be located near Epps ad the music building. And that's great...just in time for my daughter to attend!

Epps and the other dorms in that area could use a face lift and new landscaping. If the new dorms are built in that area that would be a good time to freshen up the old dorms.

Epps, Watson and Boyd need to be torn down and re-built.
They are old. I bet over the years, TSU has spent more on maintenance that it would have to build new dorms.
The street between the dorm can be closed and parking only in the rear of the dorms. The area between the dorms can be redesigned to a park like area, similar to the area between Floyd and the A Building

Between Epps Hall and the Music Building, that’s not a good location because TSU will be eliminating valuable parking space. the Demolish, the old dorms, they are not functional for the students.
TSU need a campus shuttle, that circulate around the entire campus.

While I would prefer for the dorms to be closer to the entrance of the campus to give the area a more urban university feel, I'm not opposed to them being built between Eppse Hall and the Music Building. I honestly think that area has too much surface parking and it takes away from the look of the campus. They could incorporate parking garages and or add parking decks over other surface parking lots to make up for the lost spaces. That would actually be more appealing than all the open surface parking lots. I would even like to see them do that with the small lot that is across from Kean Hall and the Hale Stadium. It would simply be a lot more attractive especially if they are clad in brick. I was hoping to post an aerial photo of the area between the music building and Eppse Hall to show just how much room is there and how parking could be shifted. Unfortunately the photo downloads as a thumbnail sized photo. But as you can still clearly see that whole area is dominated by parking lots. From the parking lot on the backside of Eppse to the the lots between Eppse and the Performing Arts Center, then the larger lots the run parallel What I'd also like to know is what is this Entry Arch supposed to look like and what are they planning to do with the $5M allocated to Hale Stadium. We still seem to be putting money into Hale with no clear vision as to the long term use.

One of the reasons it takes a long time, because the money have to be budgeted and approve by FY, unless there is an emergency.
Also, the bidding process, plans, architect, metro, impact statements and sometimes Environment & Conservation is involved to determine if there are any “one of a kind” insects or flowers, underground streams in the area. And the soil has to be tested to see if it can support the buildings.
There are all type of drawings that has to be reviewed and approved.
Plus, there are other projects on the table ahead of TSU.

Unfortunately, the University wanted good news too soon. It is basically giving us the same exact information from last time. I don't want to see another update until there is a shovel in the ground and some concrete decisions have been made.

I have some of the same questions as you D.C.
1. Would love to see the rendering of the arch. 2. Wish they had a Hale renovation drive to help build the renovation budget. I'm sure alums would have matched that $5mil. 3. I think the zoo should be on the chopping block before all other dorms. Could be a perfect spot for a garage and stadium expansion. And it would be a great idea to place all dorms on one side of the campus; easier to secure. 4. Would love to see a full layout of the plan, but I'm sure it's coming soon.
