I've been asked, and I don't. So does anyone know if the AOB will be traveling to the TSU/Hampton game in September?

Rumor has it that the AOB will NOT travel to Hampton. If anyone has accurate info on this please post it. I'm planning on going to the game. Others are planning on going with me. But I know several (in the DC area and as far away as Alabama & Georgia) who are planning to go to that game but probably won't if the band isn't there. They just don't think the atmosphere will be worth the trip if the AOB isn't there. I even know Hampton people that will not go if TSU's band isn't there.
Also, the rumor that the band will not go to Hampton is based on the premise that Dr. Glover spent money for the band to travel to Houston during her inauguration as president of the AKA's during their Boule in July. I heard the bands expenses were paid by donors not the TSU. So, I hope she did not authorize TSU funds for the band's expenses to Houston. Especially if it means the band won't be able to travel to Hampton.

In an email to Dr. McDonald asking for the AOB's 2018 schedule I asked specifically if the band would travel to Hampton, he replied back stating that the band is not traveling with the football team to Hampton. However, he did say as we all know when it comes to the HBCU games that could change. So, I guess that means there's still a slight chance that the band may travel to Hampton.
He did not provide the bands schedule. Instead he copied his administrative assistant on the email who I guess will respond with the schedule and other information I asked about regarding fundraising campaigns specific to the band.

DC, When you get the schedule; can you list it on the board as well? I find it interesting that the band is not travelling to Hampton because IMO this is one, if not the biggest game on their schedule since they are not full Big South members yet.

I plan to post the schedule on this site just I do with football and basketball.
I suspect Hampton didn't include enough money in the pot to entice TSU to bring the AOB. I agree that you would think that they would want the AOB to come because it will be one of their biggest home games this season. If I recall correctly, I think Hampton is supposed to be the 2019 JMC opponent. If so, I wonder if they intend to bring their band to Nashville? Surely, if Edward Waters could bring a band to Nashville, then HU should be able to as well. Of course I'm not understanding why TSU isn't automatically taking the band to Hampton. Last year the band went to Tampa (FAMU game) and the year before that they went to Daytona (BCU game) and of course we go to Memphis every year for the SHC. This year we play BCU in Nashville and other than Memphis the band doesn't really need to travel anywhere else of any significant distance. The only road OVC game we'll probably go to is APSU and that's just 45 minutes away. We'll travel across town to Vanderbilt so that won't be a big deal cost wise. So, unless things have gotten tight with the bands budget, I don't get not going to Hampton.

I wonder how many people from the DC, MD and VA will attend the game without the band? As well as TSU alum from NC. I live in the Hampton area so I'm looking forward to the game. I hope there are plenty of TSU fans in attendance. Of course I hate that the band will not be there, I'd love for people in the area to see the AOB. You don't hear much about TSU in this area so playing in the area and bringing the band as well will really help to bring awareness to TSU.

While I really hope the band will be there, I'm still planning to go even if they are not. I can't be a hypocrite and not make the effort to go simply because the band is not there. I've often been critical of those who go to football games just for the halftime show. I've never been one of those supporters. I go for football first then the halftime show and pageantry of HBCU football. The football team needs our show of support regardless of the band being there. As a matter of fact they need our support even more if the band is not there. So, unless something else gets in the way, I'll probably be there. I hope others from DC, MD and VA make the quick trip as well.
VA Tiger, you're right it is an opportunity for the university and the band to showcase TSU to audience that otherwise has very little exposure to TSU. Let me add that we don't get too many opportunities to support the team in this area of the country so I hope we show up in our TSU BLUE TIGER gear to cheer on the BIG BLUE TIGERS TO VICTORY!!!

Couldn't have said it any better. My parents were extremely loyal to TSU football. When September rolled around we knew where they would be practically every weekend. And, because they were founding members of the Big Blue Club, they traveled every time the BBC traveled. But even prior to the Big Blue Club, we often found ourselves on the road if the game was in reasonable driving distance. Now, ironically my dad was not a big fan of the classics. In the early days they went to Memphis and I know they went to Indy a few times. But when the classics started to become the focus he felt like they would eventually hurt Black College football. But thanks to my parents I saw Baton Rouge, Grambling, Huntsville, Jackson, Montgomery and Tallahassee long before enrolling in school at TSU and travelling to those places as a student. If we weren't at the game we were huddled around the console stereo in our living room listening to an away game on WVOL The Mighty 1470... LOL!!! I hope TSU fans get read your blog and strongly consider going to the game with or without the band. Please post it on the various facebook sites for TSU alum.

TSUMadness, along with some other Big Blue fans will be there! Hate that the AOB won't be there. And if it's because of the AKA convention in Houston, I'm not too pleased with that decision!

Hampton U's THE FORCE. They always sound great even if their field shows are kind of boring.
I would imagine if they are the 2019 JMC opponent, that they will bring this band.
IF the AOB goes to Hampton this year, it will be the most exciting thing to see/hear in Hampton.
Thats for sure!

I'm going to the game regardless of the AOB being there. I prefer for them to be there. I hope for those who can't make up their minds if they are going depending on the band's presence that they AOB announces one way or another if they plan to be at the game. Some people are acting like this is a life decision....
