Get back to fundamentals coach.
Tackling - Terrible Blocking - Terrible
You can't win if you can't perform the basic fundamental components of football.

It was a good showing IMO...
I wasn't expecting a whole lot offensively against mTSU...
Lets get back on track next week with a win in the SHC...

Get back to fundamentals coach. Tackling - Terrible Blocking - Terrible You can't win if you can't perform the basic fundamental components of football. I agree totally about the tackling. It was absolutely horrendous! They could not get their arms around anyone to bring them down. As far as the blocking, it wasn’t that bad. There were several missed blocks, but when you have two running backs run for over 90 yards, the offensive line was doing something right.

I am less concerned about the defense. THey choose to play deep and put less in the block. That lead to alot of one on one tackles. Even if we make those, it is hard to stop an offense with one on one tackling situations.
I am really concerned with Roshendal. He can't lead the team to TDS. You can fix the tackling. I don't think Rosendahl can be fixed.

Our RB's were making the plays happen in many of the cases. The blocking was better than last week against MVSU. But there is still room for improvement.
The tackling on the other hand was pitiful. You simply don't tackle shoulder pad high. We weren't bringing down their QB because we kept trying to grab him up high. Go for the waist sometimes. Wrap him up. When you hit the mid section you also impact the running. Going high you allow the legs to keep moving at full stride.
Fundamentals. Learn them. Execute them. Or go home.
Looking to next week, J-State didn't do much with S. Alabama. They scored one TD in the first qtr. The second score came late in the fourth. Final score 37-14.

From an entertainment standpoint, this game was much better than the MVSU game. The running game looked real good at times tonight. The QB play, not so much, until Hughes got in. I still don't know why he came right back out the game. The defense tackles like an average high school team. And they just couldn't stop "white" Michael Vick, as some dude in the stands next to me started calling him.
I didn't hear the crowd announcement, but it couldn't have been much over 20,000. A good showing by the TSU faithful though.
A lot of the Black students left in the 3rd quarter, I guess to hit the parties.
Maybe in 10 years, we can see that game in Nissan Stadium ( or at the new soccer stadium ), as a TSU home game on the FBS level. They SO desperately need to develop a 5 - 10 year plan to move up, so that we can see these types of matchups more often.

Hughes hurt his shoulder. That fake field goal attempt in the first quarter was horrendous. Also that 3 and 1 play where he threw a interception in the end zone was not a good play call. Technically guys we are playing with a 2nd and 3rd string QB. Now with Hughes probably done for a while this is not looking good. This is the only thing about these D1 games. Getting people hurt.

So the attendance was just a shade over 20,000 . . . ( 20,912 ) . . . their biggest crowd since the Vandy game a few years back. And looky here. It looks like MTSU would like to continue to play TSU. And they would be willing to play in Nashville. www.tennessean.com/story/sports/college/2019/09/07/mtsu-tsu-football-rivalry-nashville-murfreesboro/2194371001/ Of course, it'll either have to be a MTSU home game, or a "neutral site game" in which both schools split the gate receipts. It would be interesting to see if that game could draw 30,000 at Nissan Stadium, instead of 20,000 in Murfreesboro. Middle and Western Kentucky should definitely be playing in Nashville, in a "classic" type game, if neither team is going to draw more than 18K if they play each other on campus.

MURFREESBORO — The Rowlands kept Tennessee State's offense rolling Saturday night at Middle Tennessee State.
Chris Rowland, a senior, was TSU's leading receiver and his brother Seth, a redshirt senior, was the second-leading rusher.
The former Ravenwood High stars combined for 297 total yards and helped the Tigers keep Middle Tennessee State on the ropes at Floyd Stadium before losing 45-26.
Chris Rowland had 11 catches for a career-high 202 yards and two TDs. He has 22 catches for 374 yards and three TDs this season.
It was the first significant action for Seth Rowland, a running back, since his sophomore season.
Chris Rowland took a short pass from Cameron Rosendahl untouched 96 yards for a touchdown on TSU's second possession. It was the second-longest reception in school history. The longest was 99 yards in 2004 on a pass from Riley Walker to Fred Burnette.
In the third quarter Chris Rowland took a pass from Michael Hughes, broke six tackles, and ran 60 yards for TD that trimmed MTSU's lead to 17-13.
"I was even more fired up for this game knowing that Seth was going to get to play," Chris Rowland said.
Seth Rowland rushed for 96 yards on 11 carries.
"We fed off each other on the sidelines telling each other, 'Keep working hard, keep playing,'" Chris Rowland said.
In 2017, his first season at TSU, Seth Rowland led the Tigers to a 17-10 win over FBS opponent Georgia State by rushing for 76 yards on nine carries.
He was the Tigers' second-leading rusher in 2017 with 421 yards on 94 carries and two TDs.
Last season, however, TSU signed three running backs, and he only carried the ball five times for 15 yards.
He did not carry the ball in last week's season-opening win over Mississippi Valley State. He was told, however, that he would carry the ball against MTSU.
"I told him when your time comes be ready to go," Coach Rod Reed said. "He did a really good job tonight running the ball inside the tackles."
On his second carry, Seth Rowland broke free off tackle for a 38-yard gain, the longest of the game for TSU.
"When they called that play for me I leveled that linebacker, or whoever it was, a lineman," Seth Rowland said. "I picked him up off of his knees just like I did against Georgia State two years ago and I threw him over my shoulders."
Te'kendrick Roberson, who led TSU with 98 yards on 20 carries and scored a TD, and Seth Rowland proved to be a formidable rushing tandem.
"It was a good one-two punch; I couldn't have done what I did without T'kendrick," Seth Rowland said. "I've been telling him for awhile, 'I can help you. When I'm in there they're trying to tackle a 5-6 running back and then you go in (at 6-foot) and they're trying to tackle you up high. I promise you it's going to work."

Even though it was MVSU, I think they are improving and may have caught us overlooking them last week...
UAPB looks to be improving with a shoot out victory over AAMU...

I wonder if we will get a look at the USF transfer or some of the younger QB's next week depending on the injury update/outlook for Hughes...
