The play calling was one of the major issues on offense. The OC called only outside throws the hold game which played into our ability to move the ball efficiently. The running game was not good period!! The middle of the field was open most of the game and we did not exploit it. The defense is not good especially the secondary play. Our DB's played off 5 yards all game and could not stop the short passes. This tells me they feared being beaten deep by MVS's receivers. Too many dropped passes by receivers. The only consistent player was Chris Rowland. It will be ugly next week and uglier in the games to come especially in the OVC. We must improve on both sides of the ball.

I think for a first game there were a ton of mistakes. First time starting QB, new OC. Mistakes are going to happen and we won the game. Had we lost, I'd be PISSED. They found a way to win, and winnning matters. I just want to see an improvement next week. Call me an optimist bcuz I've been around to most practices this summer, but I believe that the focus this week for them will be on everything we did poorly at on Saturday.

I thought the Shannan Harris called a beautiful game. He got the ball to our playmaker 12 times. Bubble passes where wide open. He exploited that. Whenever our back was against the wall we put a good drive together and scored which tells me that they were game managing the QB. Which is fine to me. For us to lose our starting QB two weeks ago I’m fine with the win. Our receiving core is the best I have seen in awhile. Not a fan of running backs but hopefully they can do the job. Don’t know about our defense yet because they were basically in cover 2 all night. We never really had to come out of base defense to much. Only thing I put on coaching is penalties. It was way to many.

Should have won by 20 plus points. With 14 penalties for 115 yards, we are lucky to have won at all.. The bigger issue is when the penalties took place!! Why are we historically so undiscipline.. this can't be a culture. We would be over 400 yards in the air without untimely penaltiies.. As for the running game, its still early. I believe the O-line will improve in that area...

I'm really hoping what we saw from TSU against MVSU was first game nerves and getting used to playing someone other than your teammates. When the team settled down they actually performed well. The problem is they didn't stay in control of the game nor maintained consistency. They did not play a full 60 minutes and did not execute well. That was and still is my primary concern for this team. Discipline is my second concern. We had a couple of personal penalties that really us. One was while we were on offense. That's totally inexcusable. Coach may have to really set high disciplinary actions to make it clear that these type of bonehead penalties will not be tolerated.
If the team can come out the way the AOB did and deliver a great show from start to finish, they can beat mTSU, J-State and do well in the OVC.
