Depth in the big men group, I like it.

So far, I’m not necessarily feeling who Penny has signed thus far. Two Belmont upperclassmen that averaged only 5.9 points, 2.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists combined, and a pretty good EIU player that took a swing at a fan while sitting in sideline seats during a game (actual playing time) last year.
I’m not saying these guys won’t help the team. They may fit Penny’s system better than previous players. However, is the best Penny could get so early in the portal? Why did he sing them this early? These guys would probably still be sitting there for another month.
I hope they pan out, I really do. But on paper, what they bring to the roster doesn’t leave a lot to be desired. Barely making it over .500 isn’t going to cut it next year…unless it’s against very good competition. Penny needs to schedule well and win in the OVC tournament. And I hope these guys make me eat crow next year for Penny’s sake.

After nearly five years, I have not figured what is Collins style or type of players.

I don't "want" him to be let go, but I'm certainly struggling to see where an extension is justified.

He must be still under an old contract or just signed an extension. With the lack of coverage of TSU basketball, we’ll probably never know unless it’s mentioned by one of the commentators.

It's not just basketball; this was the same situation with Reed. His contract expired, there was silence as to his status, and next thing we knew, he was back on the sidelines. Zero transparency.

Talked to one person at the softball game yesterday. She said, Collins was discussing a contract. If I was the AD, Collins would have to justify, he deserve a contract beyond one or two years. Anything beyond two years, there would be stipulations.

Madness, I didn't realize that was the EIU player who swung at a fan. Definitely can't have that on our end. That's a black eye that wouldn't go away for an HBCU.

It's pointless to give him a one-year contract; if that's all the administration is willing to offer, then they may as well go ahead and make a move now. However, does his previous 5 years {64–85 (.430) overall, 36–56 (.391) OVC} warrant an extension? My personal opinion is that Reed, who definitely had some great moments, was allowed to stay a year (or two) too long and it dug us into a deeper hole than we were already in. I do not want the same thing to happen again.

There is a difference between Reed and Collins. Collins have the funding, Reeds funding was cut.

Collins, need to be offered a "One Year Contract" I am 100% suer Alexander, is not concerned about the any Belmont players transferring to TSU Vanderbilt basketball forward and center Malik Dia, a former Ensworth standout, announced Monday night on Twitter he plans to transfer to Belmont. The 6-foot-9 Dia, among five Commodores who entered the transfer portal after the Commodores posted a 22-15 record and lost to UAB in the second round of the National Invitational Tournament, spent his freshman season in 2022-23 as a reserve seeing action in 20 games. He averaged 2.6 points, 1.6 rebounds and 8.5 minutes per game. It is a huge pickup for Belmont, which lost Even Brauns, a 6-9 center who transferred to Iowa last month.

That's the type of dude we need right there, which is why administration needs to make an announcement on his status. It's going to be hard for him to recruit quality guys when he can't even confidently give his status; either we've gotta renew his deal and publicize that he's the guy or make a move and bring the next guy in.

IMO, he made a bad mistake with the Belmont players. Considering, there are more in the Transfer Portal, looking foe somewhere to play - since the NCAA Tournament is over. But, there were players in the Portal, before the tournament was over - much bigger than a 6'2 player. TSU need height and strength.
If I see Dr. tomorrow at Spring Practice, I am going to ask him - no sense in beating around the bush.

I'm fine with him bringing in the kid from Eastern Illinois (minus the part about him swinging at a fan ), because we are losing Clay and I assume Boyd, and he is a suitable veteran replacement for one of those guys. But those two transfers from Belmont; I know nothing about them, but do not see them as needle movers either. Neither of them brings the production that I'd expect from a lateral level transfer.
